2011 Referendum

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Maybe it's better.....

Not to have a referendum if the two leaders and the guarantor powers can come up with a deal which the U.N. Security Council and the E.U. all back and enforce? The way things stand, most average Cypriots are so fed-up and cynical with the whole process that they might not even bother to vote anyway and we also have a problem with extremist nutcases on both sides who depend on nothing ever changing to justify their own existence! When people are in doubt, they will vote no to any changes out of fear and plenty of this has been cultivated here since early 2004!!It is up to the leaders to take the responsibility, although the way Christophias has bowed to the PASYDY Union, rather than do what is necessary for the economy does not suggest that he will do it on that occasion either..as for Eroglu,he will of course do as his bosses in Ankara tell him!

There will be no deal to be put to referendum with current Turkish (Turkey) thinking. The RoC is just fine. Turkey has the problem. T-Cypriots will slowly begin to assume their positions within the Republic. A deal will be formed based on 1963 ideas, enforcing the unitary character of the Republic. All people will be allowed to go to their homes, in time. Turkey will remove her troops & she will no more have unilateral intervention rights. Neither will Greece. That's all in a nut shell. Cyprus for Cypriots.

To vote yes in any referendum I expect:

Fair territorial apportionment with clear defencible demarcation lines, one contiguous GC region not split in two by SBAs, settlers out, no virgin birth nonsense, no foreign troops permanently stationed on Cyprus. A recognition that the SBAs burden the GC state only and when they leave the land reverts to the GC region. Anything less is bullshit.

The power sharing stuff is secondary, since it will not be long before the north secedes. A BBF settlement will not be the end game, it is merely a preamble to final partition and it should be so treated.
