Varosha Student Hostels

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Varosha Student Hostels

Postby MrH » Wed Jan 26, 2011 10:58 am

The TRNC Government has given the East-Med University 4 building areas in the Ghost Town City of Maras (Varosha) for the development of its Hostels Expansion project. Also, after a Top Turkish Military visit to the fenced in city, plans are to now go ahead in the development of two new projects for the entire area failing an agreement. These include a small military quarters towards the Greek Cypriot border area in the south part of the Maras and a City airport in view of accommodating the Maras-like new Hotel distrinct in the North of the Walled in Historic city, which is now viewed upon as the new-Maras (Varosha) area comprising of the Salamis Bay Hotel and all the way to the New Kaya Artemis Hotel. Developers from Turkey are due to start proceeding this week according to the Magosa (famagusta) local Turkish Cypriot Council MP of the TRNC.

It looks like a well timed threat in view of today's talks.

In reality it's bullshit, how can the almost bankrupt "trnc" afford to fund these developments - it can't even pay the wages to its employees.

Same way as Kaya Artemis and Noah Ark Hotel was funded by Turkish investors. If Maras was open as we stand today for development it will attract foreign investment through Turkish companies. A win-win situation Turkey economy continues to grow while development is full steam ahead. With millions of dollars streaming from foreign investment they will do what is required for success in the area to contribute to their business.

Just think of it this way with lets say 20 foreign companies pouring millions and millions of dollars into the area do you think they will give a shit about G/C to stop development or will they care about the growth of their investment?

You are right in regards to TRNC cannot afford it but it will become apart of TRNC which will contribute to its economy.

In your mind you think that the average worker which earns a living and gets paid every month will spend every penny from his own pocket in developing Maras. We are not building a home we are constructing a city.

Personally I think if both communities work together for both to benefit from the area this will be grand.

Yes, you are correct Bananiot, that Turkey did "offer" Varosha back to the GCs and in returned, they would have taken the whole island back in time, had the AP was approved in 2004.

I don't mind you looking out for us TCs interests now and then, but I don't know why you want to look out for Turkey's interests. I don't. I only look out for all Cypriots interests.!
