Is a deadline near?
Nope. No timetables, no arbitration and no interim agreement. The talks carry on and Turkey has nowhere to hide.
I believe he is talking about Turkey's EU accession. As we all know, accession negotiations with Turkey began many years ago. Turkey's negotiator for the EU, Mr. Bagis Egemen, told us recently that "Turkey would not let go of Cyprus" for the sake of joining the EU. So, how do you become an EU member if you are occupying one of its members? Insane. What, is Turkey negotiating for the sake of negotiating? A deadline needs to be placed on Turkey...withdraw your troops or no EU membership/partnership.
Bagis recently stated that “the sun rises on two separate states on the island every morning”
The Government Spokesman Mr Stefanos Stefanou, invited to comment today on statements by the Head of Turkey’s negotiations for accession to the EU Mr Egemen Bagis, who referred to two states in Cyprus, said:
“Mr Bagis unfortunately repeats the same negative and provocative positions and especially lately he expresses and conveys the Turkish leadership’s position about the existence of two states and two peoples in Cyprus, which does not reflect reality and is outside the positions and decisions of the international community and especially the international Organisation. There is only one state in Cyprus, one people comprising two communities, the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot community. I remind that the secessionist action of Turkey, in 1983, of declaring an illegal state in the Turkish occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus has been unilaterally condemned by the United Nations Security Council. The Security Council considers this secessionist action not only illegal but also invalid and has called on all states not to recognise this secessionist illegal entity. The only country that has recognised the so-called Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is the country that has committed the illegality of declaring the pseudostate, namely Turkey”.
