CYPRUS WILL HOST CANADIAN MILITARY FORCES

In a statement, the deputy spokesman of the party, Christopher Fokaidis agreed that the decision of the Government may act positively on the attitude held by Canada in Cyprus, adding however that the benefits would be much more if participation of Cyprus in the Partnership for Peace.



From the side, the government spokesman Stefanos Stefanou confirmed that the Government of Canada has asked Cyprus to be allowed to use Cyprus as a transit station for the withdrawal of military forces from Afghanistan. It also stated that there is no permanent establishment nor a military base.




The entire military personnel and equipment, which operated until recently in the Canadian military base in Dubai, for operations in Afghanistan will reach next March at Larnaca and Paphos. The Cyprus Government gave the green light and expects the Canadian support on the Cyprus issue
