The British embezzlement of Cypriot heritage...

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Klik » Sat Jan 22, 2011 4:51 am

I have roots from Smyrni, Toulouse(France), Keryneia, Lapithos, Lefkosia, Patra, Constantinople and Alexandria whose majority of family has been in Nicosia for the past 75 years... what does that make me?

hint: It's Greek with French roots ;)

Does the fact that Smyrni, Constantinople, Alexandria and Patra are now in different "countries"(ie different sort of a piece of paper!) mean that my heritage is not Greek and that I must forge a new heritage? Should I say that I'm part Egyptian as well? Or that Keryneia, Lapithos and Nicosia are in Cyprus which has become a new country in 1960 suggest that I'm less Greek?
My family has been Greek speaking as long as I can trace back, which is around some 200 years (and French from my great grandmother side, who was actually a "Latin" of Cyprus, speaking Greek as well as French)
My great grand father had Turks working for him and he had Turkish friends. I know all about the "bi-communal" status of Cyprus. A defeated minority being overshadowed by the majority(post-WW1). Until 1931 happened...

Cypriots = part of Hellenes

Like it or not, it's unchangable. 1571 didn't succeed as much, 1821 didn't go well, 1878 you left, 1960s it didn't happen either, 1974 still didn't happen, 2004 not.... 2010, still going unsuccessful. So spare yourselves the time, pack your bags and go back where your parents came from and live there in peace while we get our homes back.

P.S: I'm gonna take the DNA ancestry test in the USA probably this summer, I suggest everyone does the same. It's gonna show a lot of interest stuff for every person and will open people's minds more. As a brown-haired blue eyed person living in Cyprus knowing around 200 years of his family tree(but not fully) I know what to expect and I doubt there will be much surprise :p

I have the perfect solution for identifying your identity. 'Ottoman'. All encapsulating. Any religion, ethnicity.........no problem. Your great grandparent were Ottoman after all.

Nope, sorry to burst your bubble.

At home I have a medal of honor given to my great grand father for his exceptional courage saving a British military Major during a battle.
I also have a sword which still stinks Ottoman blood. Actually two of them.
The uniform that my great grand father was wearing is now in Turkish hands as it was left at our house by the beach in Keryneia(where now a pseudo-parliament member resides with his wife and apparently they haven't even bothered to enter the bathroom to at least fix it yet  )

I also happen to have recent ancestors with British passports and for the last 200 years we have no Ottoman blood running in our family. On the other hand, in the last 100 years my family has had 20 Turks in total working for us and they were happy to do so apparently.

What is Ottoman is whoever speaks Turkish today... Get that in your heads, accept your past before you wreck our future as well as the last 500 years of our history...

Now check how many Greek massacres the Ottomans/Turks plus Nassr committed in the selected locations and how many lives were lost

Okay, glad we have some understanding. Is there such thing as "Turkish blood" then?

Seems the only hold these TCs have on our island is that somehow they have 'seeded' us with their blood.

Like you Klik, my family goes back to traceable generations without a stain. But try and mention that to a Turk and he is convinced he must have somehow soiled you for all the time he was here. We are pretty liberal these days, and yet preference to one's own, or similar-thinking cultures, is rife - what makes them think some nice placid Cypriot would mate with bloodthirsty, enslaving barbarians like them?

Can't wait for the full Genealogical reports - the preliminaries are looking pretty good! :D

Are you sure it’s not one of those mule-handler medals that many Cypriot grandpas received for serving in one of the great wars?

Unlike some people over here who throw my name in every place I'm not digging into, I don't dig out everyone's past sayings... So instead of being a wise ass and acting like a popular 14year old girl who just got her period and answer if you wish, or else don't ask me if I'm joking... Unless you think you're that famous that it's shameful on my behalf to not know everysingle thing you said on here
