No more quiet waiting at EU’s door, Erdogan warns..

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Because the EU is not a single person entity that can just reply with a “yes” or “no”!

The EU is a super-bloated, super-faceted, super-complex, supra-organization that operates via myriads of complex procedures, protocols, and methodologies.

Just sending a “Hello, how are you?” message to someone, would probably involve 64 departments spanning 20 countries, let alone process a membership application of a country like Turkey!

Eventually, Turkey will just tire and give up!

It was so much easier when we joined, you didn't have countries like Cyprus in the union then.

If that's the reality, then what leverage would the South hold on to in pressuring Turkey in regards to the Cyprus problem?

Why is everyone so banged about what Turkey wants and Turkey's patience in waiting to join the EU?

This is not about what Turkey wants but what its more powerful allies want from Turkey. Namely the US, needs and wants Turkey to join the EU. Turkey cannot just resign to the fact that the price is too high.

On the other hand when just under a half of your entire trade is with the EU there aren't many things that will allow Turkey to maneuver. Gas pipelines, Hydro plants and such will only make sense if there is a solid relationship with the EU in order to be a part of the new energy jigsaw puzzle.

Next time someone tells me that the public in Trabzon or Antalya is growing weary of the EU candidacy they'll need to be reminded that this is not their call to make.

turks dont understand a point in finance that all markets are forward looking. The growth that has been created in turkey, which is admirable is due to a very large part with the assumption that turkey eventually will be in the EU or so close to the eu(economically, politcally, military). If there is even a hint of instability or a turn to the east the money flows coming out of turkey will be so severe that they will crash the country. The west already once lost tremendously with one muslim country(shah, iran)that it will not happen again.

Turkey a failed EU candidate country and probably by that stage a former NATO country and Enemy of Israel and the West will be illegally occupying EU territory.Remember all of the Cyprus enterred the EU, even though the Government of Cyprus is not respeonsible for any breaches of EU law in the occupied areas.

Erdogan is laughing all he way to the elections which are due in June this year...His whole agenda and rhetoric are now fully intended for domestic consumption...I have always believed Erdogan and his party have no intention of joining the EU...They still need to pretend in order to pacify the progressive ,liberal sections of Turkish society, but as interest has faded amongst Erdogans supporters he can be a little less careful now in what he says...
