Maybe you are right, the situation as it is now suits all the big players, Turkey, Greece, UK and they are willing to let it ride.

In the past, despite the rhetoric, neither Greece nor Turkey were ready to go to war over Cyprus. It was a fight by proxy with the occasional flare ups when one or the other side thought it could gain the upper hand.

But some undeniable facts are now evident. One is that GCs are the major force on the island. Entry to the EU underlined this fact, the discovery of offshore gas is another factor. These facts are not lost on the Turks. They would love to be rid of the problem.

The TCs have realised that partition comes at a cost. It is not the solution they had imagined, where they are given a bit of the island and left alone. They are definitely NOT left alone. And right next door they see that GCs do not have Greece on their heads. The GCs have been left alone and are better off without any "mother" to look after them. The strikes are simply bringing to the surface a simple demand by the TCs, they want to be like the GCs, independent and self reliant. It will take more than a few strikes to get there.

The first step would be to have a genuuine TC negotiating position on the solution of the problem. I feel sure that the majority of TCs do not give a flying pluck for confederation and the power to sign international agreements, but that is the line they toe in the talks because Ankara says so.

Erdoghan said he will call Eroglu to Ankara and ask him if he agrees with the strikers when they say "Turkey out". I wonder if Eroglu will have the spherical appendages necessary to say "Yeah, I agree".

Over 100 NGOs told you different recently. Young Denktas told you differently.

Listen guys, this is an industrial dispute with a hand full of GC plants. That is the really you need. Dont get too excited. 8)

Erdogan lambasts ‘ungrateful’ north

(extract) TURKISH Cypriot unions and left-wing political parties expressed outrage yesterday after Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan slammed them for last week’s mass protests against Ankara-inspired austerity measures.

Speaking to reporters during a visit to Kyrgyzstan this week, Erdogan criticised the unions and NGOs for their participation by saying, “Who do you [Turkish Cypriots] think you are? We have martyrs, heroes and strategic interests [on Cyprus].”

He added that the demonstration had been “provocative” and that Turkish Cypriots, who were “fed and maintained by Turkey”, had “no right to hold such protests”.

"this is an industrial dispute with a hand full of GC plants"

Now we are being asked to believe that the RoC has grown in influence to the point it can incite industrial action in the north!!!

Also we are asked to believe that this simple "industrial action" somehow accidentally includes demans like "Turkey out".

Our credulity is being stretched a tad.

Here is another gem. VP always tells us that there is no difference between the TCs and the Turks, and that they are one and the same. Well, apparently, Erdogan thinks the TCs are nothing but "kept parasites". I told VP before that the Turks only see us TCs as uncultured peasants and that we only here to serve them.

Is VP still proud of his "roots", even if he is viewed as a "kept parasite".?.?

The opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP) yesterday added its voice to those objecting to Erdogan’s statements, saying that while they did not want to see a rift growing between Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots, it was not right to view the Turkish Cypriots as “kept parasites”. The party concluded that Erdogan had been misinformed and provoked.

As a lateral thinker, it may well be, that all the demonstrations and verbal attacks on each other between the Turks and the TCs, is for Turkey to have a face saving excuse to leave the island for good. It may all be play acting for them to say to the TCs, "Fcuk you all, you ungrateful and uncultured gavur peasants. We came to save your butts in 74, kicked the GCs out of the north and gave it to you, we feed you sorry ass peasants and what do we get in return, a lot of grief to a point on missing out on the EU, so we say to you now, go back to your gavur sisters and brothers because we now disown you" and with that, the Turks will get rid of their Cyprus problems for good and then try to play by the rules to become a EU members. 8) 8) 8)

Had Greece been successful in her coup against Cyprus, we would’ve been in a similar situation today!

I don't know which of the two is the worst evil... :?

Hello Lobster. I don't ever recall Bananiot EVER saying that his people are scum and they deserve nothing. For that mattrer, he has never said that about the TCs either and considers them as part and parcel of HIS people. Individuals like you are left to your own devises and that should go without saying

Well, here is something a "doomed lobster" has in common with the "kept parasite" TCs. They are both doomed, unless the TCs can save themselves from the same fate as what has already happened to the lobster. Try and enjoy your lobster, Zan. Lets hope it is free of parasites, unlike Turkey with the TCs.!
