Merkel lauded Christofias creative efforts at peace but has assessed Turkish efforts as absolute shit.

I wouldn't place too much emphasis on the comments made by a visiting politician to her host country, especially when it would be helpful to have RoCs' vote in the EU councils. She also wishes to keep Turkey out of the EU, so there's nothing like increasing Christofias' unwillingness to advance further by praising him for his willingness to compromise (I wonder what compromise she can mean).

Merkel didn't get to be the leader of a coalition running a big country without a lot of political cunning. You don't need such political cunning to become the leader of a coalition in a small country of course.

Observer, whatever helps you sleep at night mate..

Very shallow analysis indeed..
Merkel is the Chancellor of the superpower of Europe in case you haven't noticed! Germany's position in the EU, especially during the current economic crisis, was strengthened beyond belief. This is a country that effectively holds the other 26 countries from the balls and doesn't look prepeared to let go unless they come in line with its policies.

So then ask yourself would Turkey want to join EU with Germany holding it's balls? I would probably think not. Germany's economy is only going to grow as the economic crisis continues and more european countries within the EU calls for austerity meassures. Now you have China buying into Spain and Portugual debts another grabbing your balls.

So why do they want to become a EU member, so much so to threaten the RoC if they blocked Turkey EU chapters.??

GR's answer to the same question on another thread.

Erdoğan was swift to put Merkel in her place.

Swift maybe, but totally ineffective!

Did he call her the "German Queen" or was it one of his school playground pals?

Anyway, she's made a mental note to have the (Cyprus-EU) mountain wiped clean of Turkish-trashflags by sending over some Turkish (ex-German) immigrant workers, en-route to repatriation!
