Cyprus sends tough signal to Turkey

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Apparently Turkey does not want to enter the EU but they want the EU to enter Turkey

observer wrote:The chances of Turkey joining the EU become ever more remote with the passage of time, and little to do with Cyprus or Islam, but lots to do with good old fashioned politics. Seats in the EU parliament are now decided by population. If Turkey joined the EU it would have the second biggest number of seats after Germany. Many of the politicians whose powers would be weakened realize this and find Cyprus and Islam a convenient excuse.

Economically, although Turkey is currently at a lower base that most EU countries, it is advancing at a faster rate than the EU, and has a sounder financial footing than many of the basket-case EU economies. Turkey is also better placed demographically than most EU countries, with a greater proportion of young/old people. Turkish people are realizing this also, so the wish to join the EU is growing weaker in Turkey too.

No view is held universally – this one especially so, so you will find politicians in the EU and Turkey strongly in favour of Turkey joining the EU, but I believe the drift away from union is stronger. It would be interesting to know how many people in how many EU countries would vote to leave the EU today if it was practical to do so.

As for Cyprus sending ‘a tough message to Turkey’

really?...i and a whole lot of others beg to differ with your analysis...i think you listen to bagis the goofball for too long and clouded your mind...

if turkey is doing so well how come your motherland ain't looking after you...someone would think some of this money would have found its way at the end of the que...they are throwing money at everybody it seems except at you...

The below quote by Bagis was only a month ago, when everything was going so well, so he thought.!

"I am not saying Turkey is perfect ... she has to solve very important issues," Bagis said. But "compared to the past, Turkey is at a much better point."

"We have started to taste, to smell full accession," he said. "The fact that the European Commission found that Turkey achieved progress in all chapters signals better days."

Now Bagis has finally realised he wasn't smelling and tasting the EU at all.

So now, Turkey is going to work on their "Plan B", which is to intimidate and threaten EU member states to let them into the EU with no questions asked, or else.!

What a way to make an first impression to the EU family Turkey wants to join by acting like a "schoolyard bully" when such language used by Bagis by stating that;
“Greek Cypriots know very well that Turkey's EU process is their insurance policy. The ending of Turkey's EU process would be their nightmare”

What I want to know is, where the hell are the grownups in Turkey while the children are running amok with their foreign policy and political Etiquette's when in public.

Simple truth is most of Turkey's investment comes from the EU and half of its exports go there because of the favourable customs union. Should Turkey turn away from Europe it would lose out big time.

Despite all the negatives on the EU shown in the above link, Turkey still wants to join and is threatening the RoC if it stands in it's way. :?

So the question then begs to be asked is, WHY ?

The UK is Turkey's biggest supporter for EU entry. Why would an EU state which wants to get out itself, recommend it for another country?

Because they’d rather have a recession-prone yet wealthy economy than the improved yet impoverished Turkish economy!
