lol the cypriot dialect is a rich dialect and close to ancient greek. I am proud of this. And you know something..."CYPRIOT DIALECT" as some people say, its proper name is "ARCADOCYPRIOT DIALECT" and it is found not only in Cyprus but also in Rhodes and Tripolis, where Mycaeneans lived and settled...wherever they went, they took their dialect of greek with them
I have been to Rhodes, to places all over the island such as Arxangelos (a village there), and I have spoken to the locals in Cypriot dialect, and we understood each other 100%....they use the same words, same dialect, the Arcadocypriot.
How can people say "GC dialect is different to main land greek"??? As if there is only 1 dialect in main land greece....you know how many there are????
-Pontian
-Constantinople dialect
-Cretan
-Tsakonian
-Macedonian
-Thracian
-Griko
-Arcadian
-Cypriot
-Heimarriotic (Epirus)
-Cappadocian
-Maniot
In Pontian and Constantinople Greek there are turkish words.....so? this is how the dialect evolved....We dont call that another language, it is a dialect.
Within the GC state, why the hell would we encourage GC dialect to be taught in schools???? Deosnt make any sense.....there is no WRITTEN form of our dialect, you can not write in our dialect, we use greek alphabet. Cypriots make the "j" and "ch" sounds which can not be expressed with greek alphabet...it would be ridiculous to even consider writing this dialect out, its purpose was an ORAL form of communication....we write in GREEK, our official language is GREEK, official documents, signposts, statements, literature, are all written in Greek.
It would be ridiculous and make no sense to start teaching some form of written greek dialect and laughably adopt it as a "language"....it is a form of GREEK!
