At least one local wine maker trained in Australia and I heard that recent years some wineries brought in Winemakers from Australia to gain knowledge from them and improve the quality of Cyprus wines.
No, it's not about improving the 'quality' of wine. Growers are looking to Australia for 'quantity'. Australians are famed for over-industrialising the process to maximise profit. There are no serious quality Aussie wines. Even my friend's favourite, Wolf Blass (?) something, gives me a headache after just one glass, it is so chemicalised. It's all quantity, quantity, quantity! So much so that they are having to pour away gallons of the unsold stuff...

Actually no.
Australia is famed for some very boutique wines and wineries particularly from the Margaret River and Barrossa Valley.
http://www.barossa.com/wineThe wineries found here are very small but there are lots of them and they are run by very small Bavarian Lutheran Wine Dynasties.
A bottle of Penfold Grange will set you back 800 Euro depending on the year. The newer bottles are 220 Euro.
Quality is extremely high all round even for the cheaper labels.
Yes, Cypriot Wine will improve a great deal in quality from Australian Winemakers. There is no doubt about it. The traditions go back centuries from Germany's Bavaria wine areas. You would have heard of famous brands such as Wolf Blas! This is a very high quality wine but affordable as opposed to Penfolds Grange.
http://www.wolfblasswines.com/en/Countr ... aspx?u=%2fThere is a very long history and tradition in wine making, and it is no where near industrialized or mass produced. The focus is very much on quality and Australians are very spoilt with the best wine and the best food in the world.
The whole area is very German. The German Bavarians were among the first to settle in Australia.
Once again you know nothing about Australia. Listen to your husband and visit. You will never want to leave.
