Do you actually believe this or do you believe this is what the Turks wanted you to believe?

The anti Makarios coup was an 'invitation' wasnt it? No one can make me believe anything that I know is wrong.

Why don't you stick your neck out and admit that when the GCs were having a civil dispute you chose to opportunistically invade for your piece!

One has to get over it I suppose.

Oracle will hate me if she does not already.

We had a semi-pro baseball team in town. Its marketing group conjured up a game for the fans that was played between 2 random innings. We knew the game was coming when the announcer played the song you posted above "Istanbul Not Constantinople." The winner recieved his/her prize in the form of 1-dollar bills. The game was called "Who wants to be a Turkish Millionaire?"

And BTW, I'll "get over it" when the doors to Halki re-open. :(

Like the Jews used to say, 'next year in Jerusalem'.

Is not, never was, and never will be applicable as long as the Echumenical Patriarch holds hard and fast.

Could you elaborate on 'Halki' please?

Halki is a Greek Orthodox Theological School on the eponymous Turkish island in the Sea of Marmara. It was established in the mid 1800's. In short, the Turkish government forced its doors shut in 1971, claiming its existence violated the constitution. The constitution relegated all non-secular institutions to the jurisdiction of the government. The Patriarchate would not comply. The intent of the law was to keep radical Islam at bay. Turkey used it to tighten its choke-hold on its G.O. population. ... Chalk it up to another one of Turkey's human rights violations.

Thank you, but I do not need reminding of Turkeys Human Rights violations/ I am not blind and neither am I brain-washed. Turkey does not know the meaning of democracy and I have nothing to do with Turkey; and Turkey should have nothing to do with Cyprus.............but then the GC extremists did behave in a manner that 'invited' the Turks to 'invade'.

I certainly hadn't intended to put you on the defensive, Deniz. I was simply obliging your request of me to elaborate on Halki. :( Nevertheless ...

but then the GC extremists did behave in a manner that 'invited' the Turks to 'invade'

... What might this have to do with Halki?

The Turks had been anti Enosis since about 1955 - they apparently provided ex-officers as the core of TMT and promoted Takism. That was a contriburory facto to the establishment of an independant Cyprus, rather than the absorbtion of Cyprus into Greece by Enosis.

As it was, the 1974 Coup was not a GC civil dispute: it was war promoted by a Foreign state, Greecem using Greek Troops called invaders by Big Mak.

For what ever reason (and I think bioth TC and GC are guilty, neither Enosis nor Takism died in 1960 - indeed Enosis was revived in 1963 wth the 13 points and Acritas Plan, and promoted certainly up to 1967/8, ( and Takism re-emerged at about the same time. I understand that Turkey was pursuaded NOT to invade several times by the USA: then the Junta came along - in 1974 they decided to Annex Cyprus, by inspring the 1974 Coup, which involved participation of Greek Forces on the Island: that coup, described by Big Mak as an invasion by Greece, was all the invitation the Turks then needed to invade to "save" the 1960 consitution and to allgedly protect thie T/C's, though as is reportedr, someTurkish Politicians have suggeted that in relaity did not give a toss about the TC due to their own geo-political , and invasion was a dead cert at some point if, as in 74, there was a serious risk of any form of enosis.
