Advice please

Hello. I am thinking of moving to Cyprus in the next few years and am doing some preliminary research regarding the most suitable place for me to live. I have visited twice last year and like the Paphos area best. Can anyone offer me advice regarding the best places to live in this area. My previous visits have been to Aphrodite Hills and Secret Valley but I'm not sure if these would be ideal places to live full time - but perhaps they would, has anyone done this?

I wonder if a small town or village might be better long term. I like to walk or cycle at least 1.5 hours a day so am looking for somewhere with decent paths from where I live or at least within a short distance to a suitable area to do this. I have noticed that many places do not have good pavements apart from places like Secret Valley and Aphrodite Hills. I would like to be within 30 mins or so drive of Paphos. I will probably rent for a while to get a feel for the place but advice on good places and places to avoid would be very much appreciated. Thank you
Paul

I assume you are retired (if you need to work Paphos is the wrong choice). The most beautiful places in Paphos are around the Lachi - Pomos areas, but that might be a bit more than 30 minutes from Paphos. Since you are going to rent first then I would suggest to rent at a place where you can find a good deal and then use your time in Cyprus to find the ideal place for you to buy.

thanks for the info. No I'm not retired but its not necessary for me to find work as I have business interests in the UK which i could work from Cyprus. I might look around though and see what opportunties there are locally. Why would Paphos be a poor palce to work? I have a medical background and there seems to be quite good private hospitals but is it too quiet? I'm actually wondering if it might be easier just to spend the UK winter in Cyprus where the weather seems very nice. Are the summers in Cyprus bearable and do you acclimatise to the heat. I spoke to someone who moved to Cyprus on my last visit and they said that 20 degrees now feels cool but I find that hard to believe when that would be great waether in the UK! What do you think? Also can you give me any specific names of places to avoid to live. I was very tempted with Aphrodite Hills but not sure if it is a bit Stepford Wives and secreat Valley looks like it might be spoiled by the Nikki Beach development.

With a medical background would be a good place for work as it is mainly populated by ailing, ageing, Brits, but most of them are skint and bugger off back to the UK when they think they are getting terminal.

Are you a doctor? There is demand for some kind of rare specialties. But in general Paphos is not particularly strong in the business sector, it is too small. And this is true for Cyprus as a whole when compared with the UK. For most kind of professions you can expect lower salaries in Cyprus than a comparable job in the UK. Regarding heat in the summer it is bearable most of the time, as long as you are not out in the sun in the middle of the day and you have air con in your home (everybody does these days). But different people have different level of tolerance so you will have to see for yourself. Places to avoid ... not really. Just find a few places that you like and make your research to find out if they have any problems. No place is perfect, every place will have its pluses and minuses and it is up to you to make an informed decision. If you are going to rent then you will get better prices in winter, so it is not bad idea to come this season.
