Will Turkey survive another Christmas?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

It's not often I find myself sympathizing with Oracle (Deniz is usually the ONLY voice of reason around here) but this time I have to admit, I think you make a valid point. I think runaway is right to point out that this isn't strictly relevant to a Cyprus forum, but it's highly amusing, for the grammar in the pathetic insults hurled at Oracle if nothing else ('you fucking basterd' tickled especially). Runaway and others, I think that to deny that Armenians and Kurds have a right to self-rule and land restitution is a dangerously illogical leap and one that undermines the validity of nation states altogether - and seeing as for the last century Turkey has been desparately trying to convince the world that it is a Western-style nation state willing to do anything to be able play with the big boys, a highly inconsistent one.

Oracle dearest. Just like the RoC is Internationally recognised as the legal body and the northern admin is not; one has to look at the legal aspects of 'ownership'. The boundaries of the Republic of Turkey were recognised by the International bodies, so Turkey is the 'legal' 'owner' of Kars. I cant stop you winding our friend up, but you must see the absurdity of your claims. Or is this part of your 'Mikri Idea'

Dear Deniz

IMHO one of Oracle's problems is seeking to mix and match her perceptions of ancient historical ideas with those of the 21st Century, forgetting that (a) Greece as nation state only came about in the early 19th Century within defined boundries which did not include any part of of what is now modern Turkey and (b) the city states of the ancient world were sometimes a bit fickle in who they owed their allegience to. For example many of the Cypriot city states gave allegience over many years to the persain Empire, which only really came to an end with the Invasions and conquests of Alexander the Mecedonian.

It is otherwise seemingly quite acceptable for Greeks to become occupiers (as they did in Anatolia in ancient times, and possibly in Cyprus (though I think GR contests that, possibly with some validity) or to impose their cultural mores on the world (or at least part of it) as they probably did in ancient times but then time has to stop.

Just a pity we do not have a Tardis to allow us to ship O back to the ancient world, where she will no doubt be very happy.

 the cf would not be the same without O. I think O would be bored in Classical Greece with all the young athletes only interested in each other or their teachers.

There are many countries which dispute Turkey's territorial claims. There is only ONE which disputes the RoC's.

It is totally moronic to talk about purity of race, for globalisation has swept away for good the ideological fortresses of the nationalists. Also, anthropometry, DNA science and linguistic research have ridiculed all nationalists and chauvinists who have seen their false believes crumble like paper towers.
