Turkish Cypriot ‘Grinches’ Steal Christmas, Stop Holiday Liturgy

Image

Turkish forces in the occupied area of Karpasia in Northern Cyprus have presented a new challenge regarding the celebration of Christmas by Christians living in the territory. For the first time in 36 years Christians trapped in the occupied area were forbidden from celebrating Christmas.
On Christmas morning, Saturday 25 December 2010, Father Zacharias and a large number of people went to the Church of Saint Sinesios in Rizokarpaso (photo) to begin Matins for Christmas. Meanwhile men of the occupied forces rushed to the church, interrupted the service, urged the priest to remove his vestments, and ordered everyone leave the church. When everyone had left, the doors were sealed.
The same happened in the Church of the Holy Trinity where Father Konstantinos was serving.
Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus was saddened by the provocative attitude of the occupied forces.

All the cypriots in cyprus liked christmas a lot,
But the turks, who lived just north of cyprus, did not.
The turkish grinches hated christmas season.
oh, please don't ask why, no one quite knows the reason.
it could be, perhaps, that their shoes are too tight.
or maybe their heads are not screwed on just right.
but I think that the best reason of all
may be that their hearts are two sizes too small.

the nerve of those cypriots - wanting liberation and on such short notice. even if we wanted to, our schedule wouldn't allow it.
4:00, wallow in self pity;
4:30, stare into the abyss;
5:00, piss off the israelis, demand an apology.
5:30, jazzercize.
6:30, donner kebab dinner with ourselves. we can't cancel that again.
7:00, wrestle with our self-loathing. of course, if we bump the loathing to nine, we could still be done in time to lay in bed, stare at the ceiling, and slip slowly into madness.

everyone down in cyprus, the tall and the small,
was singing without any service at all!
turks HADN'T stopped christmas from coming! IT CAME!
yes, somehow or other, it came just the same!
and the turks, with their turk-hearts as cold as the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling:
How could it be so?
it came without churches. it came without clergy.
It came without vestments, without the liturgy.
the turks puzzled and puzzled, till their puzzler was sore.
then the turks thought of something they hadn't before!
"wot if christmas spirit can't be forbidden?"
"wot if the world's contempt for us will no longer be hidden?"

I hope President Christofias allerts Mr Downer of this action and takes his concerns about the decision by our so called Brothers/ Sisters the TC's to deny a group of enclaved people celebrating Christmas on Christmas day in thir own Country.

The immoral and unethical TC's occupying the North of Cyprus will blame the recent football.
violence, well how are the football violence in Cyprus any different to the British football violence in France/ Germany?

This action by the TC leadership in the North has shown up the so called brotherhood of TC's to be what it is racist and fascist group of people who have no hearts or souls.

I call for Christofias to close all crossings until further notice. He needs to alert Europe and the UN that Turkey continues along with a group of renegate TC's to illegally occupy Cyprus , violate human rights and deny people their religious rights. Not people that Europe should want in the mix.

And what will be the benefit of closing the gates which were open by the TC's? Just another fiasco for our side, like the APOEL basketball match.

By the way, this is a place where tit for tat is not uncommon. I am sure the church services would have gone ahead, as they did over the last few years, had the APOEL funs been a little less racist.

yes, but as i said in another thread.... while both the basketball and church incidents were instigated by a bunch of mindless hooligans, the former were masquerading as sports fans, while the latter were masquerading as the authorities. see the difference?

Not really. I have my doubts whether it is wise to blame the "mindless hooligans" every time there is an incidence of this type. In the past, we were told that the coup in 1974 was committed by a bunch of mindless people (afrones, was the Greek word used) and some of those that used this term were part of the coup! These mindless people have been very well schooled to behave in this way. What is of real surprise is the inability of the rest of us to controll them and stop them from making our dire situation even worse.
