All right! Merry Christmas

... and still no government official of GC administration, Greek government or EU officials condemn this meaningless act...? ... not even Afrika collumnists? :?

It is said that... a permit was given in early December... or r u an eye witness?

Anyway, let's see... Hrisostomos had said he would complain about it to the UN and EU...

the roc government should show some chutzpah and demand an apology from the xmas-stealing turkish grinches. wot say u, insan?

According to my researches, it is said that the Christians living in Northern Cyprus should get the required permisiion from the TRNC authorities for such mass gatherings... that's why they had not been allowed for Christmas mass...

if the religous leaders of Christian community living in TRNC imply they don't recognize the TRNC authorities; why should TRNC authorities recognize their unlawful mass gathering?

Is it too difficult for these priests to go to relevant TRNC authorities to ask the required official permission? I'm sure it is not... It is obvious that their aim was not celebrating Christmas but creating a political polemic...

It is inappropriate for priests to abuse special religious days for a so-called political gain...

Oddly enough, I haven't heard such a counter argument from the so-called authorities of the TRNC in response to the sneaky politics of the priests...

A permit was given in november to the priest and it has been revoked without an explanation why.

What kind of country is it that requires a 'permit' from the'authorities' for some one to practice their religion? Has the world gone crazy? Is this the sort of freedom TCs are looking forward to? I would feel ashamaed to live in such a place. Well, I was ashamed when I saw the state of the Catholic church almost righ in the middle of touristic Kyrenia. Have people no shame? Why is this allowed to go on? Absolutely disgusting. If we wish to aspire for higher things we must do utmost to educate ourselves and behave like decent human beings. Just because one does a 'tit' we do not have to do the 'tat'.

I think it's for security reasons... both for the security of the participants and... security of TCs... You know Cyprus' priests have a bad reputation of dividing people instead of uniting...

Many of the GC priests still don't talk good about TCs and Turks... They r so-called priests who r actually billionaire businessmen...

...everything is expected from these Keo lovers...

I am not asking you to condemn this action, because if it does not come from within their is no hope for any peace in our island. For once in their history, cant they get anything right by showing some magnaminity.?

If i still was an active journalist, I would make a very detailed research about this issue but unfortunately i'm not anymore...

you know, GC administration has always aspired for some propaganda material to get the attention of the world in favour of their cause... How about a false flag operation during one of these masses to blame it on Turks? Nowadays, they need it more than anything.. especially their right wing...

The authorities' policy and practice contributed to the generally free practice of religion.

Greek Cypriot Orthodox and Maronite Catholics were prohibited from visiting religious sites located in military zones in the area administered by Turkish Cypriots. They were allowed to conduct Mass on a regular basis, without prior permission, at seven sites in the area administered by Turkish Cypriots so designated by the Turkish Cypriot authorities; prior permission was required to conduct Mass at the other estimated 500 religious sites in the area administered by Turkish Cypriots.

Turkish Cypriot authorities gave permission for an Orthodox Mass to be held at the Armenian Sourp Magar Monastery in Kyrenia/Girne on May 6, 2007, the first time since the 1974 division of the island. Turkish Cypriot authorities also gave permission for a Catholic Mass at the Maronite Prophet Elias Monastery outside of Ayia Marina/Gurpinar on July 23, 2006, also the first time since the division of the island. For the fourth consecutive year, Turkish Cypriot authorities permitted a Greek Orthodox Mass at St. Barnabas Monastery, near Famagusta, on June 10-11, 2007. On September 1-2, 2006, Turkish Cypriot authorities, for the third consecutive year since the opening of the crossing points in 2003, gave permission for a Greek Orthodox Mass to be held in Ayios Mamas Church near the town of Morphou/Guzelyurt. Unlike in previous years, there were no incidents directly before or during the Mass.

During the period covered by this report, Turkish Cypriot authorities completed the restoration of five Orthodox churches in the area administered by Turkish Cypriots.

It is said that... a permit was given in early December... or r u an eye witness?

Let's see... Hrisostomos had said he would complain about it to the UN and EU...

Under the circumstances they live Insan, I cant take your statement seriously. Ofcourse they will say anything to justify the removal of the GCs Human Rights.

Are you telling me that the basketgate and the GO mass are directly linked - cause and effect? :? or better still part of the same operation? :?

It kinda smells like it is... just check the news headlines of the GC right wing media... they exert hard to distract public opinion from the basketgate to this incident...

TC media is the same. Whats new.

Of course, in general they r same... but under this thread we don't discuss/compare the similarities of TC and GC media... I'm not claiming TC right wing media is any better...

And I was not challenging you Insan. I hate the injustices that were perpetrated against us, but two wrongs dont make one right, so it follows that I hate the gross injustices towards our Greek Cypriot brethren. I cant help it.

That I agree on, that some priests have done untold injustice for the people of Cyprus in the name of patriotism. Flipin 'eck, that started in 1821.............carried on with Big Mak and now Chrisostomos.........About time religion and state are completely 'TAKSIMED'. (Both sides)
