Why is everyone wondering about the veto? The municipalities where not given the bizonal political power the tc's wanted so the tc's veto'd the budget. Does anyone know what happens when the budget remains veto'd? The govt goes bankrupt because it cannot collect any taxes and everything breaks down.

thank you DT,actually the country goes bankrupt, thru the seperate municipalities that our friend bananiot mentioned in a other thred the t/c(not all of them)would lay the foundations for partition not for autonomy as he states but a bridge head that would lead to turkey getting a foothold in cyprus as it did with the next best thing self imposed enclaves.

deniz no problem man

Somewhere I also said that if the moslem and christian population had truly intermingled, then there would have been no need for separate municipalities; but no point in cying over spilt milk.

And deniz says that the money was being transferred to the gc municipalities. Did the veto mean that there was no budget? Or no new budget? Massive difference in that answer.

It is clear that in the events leading up to 1963, the GC leadership was following an agenda of unification of the two communities and the TCs, being manipulated by the Turks, were following a fifth column separatist agenda.

The constitutional amendments cemented the unification agenda of the GC-led coalition, with the blessing of the UN.

However, the TC leadership, again being manipulated by Turkey, withdrew from their responsibilities, setting off a disastrous chain of events.
