Perhaps the UK can take the value out of the bail-out amount outstanding?

What bail-out outstanding? The UK never had any money to contribute to the Eurozone, despite its cries. And any countries which did supposedly financially help out Greece have owed Greece since the destruction they caused in WWII (Germany and Italy) or for the assistance Greece gave in liberating other lands (e.g. France) by way of Greece's loss of men, women and wealth.

Greece is and has always been an immeasurable contributor to Europe, and all other countries round the world that look to Europe for moral, ethical, educational and scientific guidelines. :D

If, as is indicated by some reliable sources, Lord Elgin did not properly puchase the marbles then they should of course be returned to Greece.

If however they were properly bought and paid for then, IMHO there is no obligation to return them.

I think the Museum Director should consider this in terms similar to the Orams' case. The Turks were occupying Greece and the artifacts were not theirs to sell - just like the GC homes in the north, presently.

Eventually this may have to be taken to the Courts, where precedent has been set. But it would be nice to transfer them back wilfully and amicably since it is High Culture we are dealing with. :D

I say that we give the marbles back to Greece.
It would save the British Museum money on insurance premiums.
Greece could sell the marbles at auction, the proceeds of which would help the economy.

A win-win situation methinks.

What does 'immeasurable contribution' mean?

I suspect it means that the contribution is so small that it cannot be measured.
