Ok, i would like to tell you a story about my grandfather. It is a story that I only found out very recently.

before I do so i must give you some back round (although this has been posted before).

my grandfather had six of his relatives taken and killed by gcs he him self was once taken off a bus and almost killed numerious times but was saved by the pleas of a gc women that was on the bus as well.

in 67/68 he lost approx 50 donums of land in the pathos region that he until his death in 85 and none of my family since have recieved one penny in compensation and have been repeatedly refused the right of to our land by the ROC.

anyway back to the story, after coming to the uk in 68 my granddad did return to Northern cyprus after 1974 to stay with relatives (not sure of the exact date) whilst he stayed there he found the property belonged to GCs prior to '74 and they had left their photographs and many other personal belongings in the house when they had left.

despite the horrific events that had happened to my granddad he took it upon himself to find the family who lived in the house an return the photographs and other belongings to them, something that they were most thankful for. They too lived in the UK.

maybe this should be something we should all take heed of. this man lost so much at the hands of the gc's yet he showed a compassion that must be admirred.

and also thanks once again for the GC woman that saved his life, may she and hers be blessed.

other than the spelling, it's a good story.

thanks for the links, and the pathos/paphos is indeed apt, more importantly so is the story.

You are barking up he wrong tree,DTA...

You will not get any empathy or compassion from the Hellenofascists who inhabit this place...They will tell you so wot? More GCs have suffered and for much longer in Ottoman/Turkish hands,so you grandpa's pain and suffering do not count...Let alone his good deed...But it was worth telling the story, some of us who are still human will relate to it and appreciate it...Our village in Paphos was saved from GC irregulars/paramilitaries attack by the neighbouring GC villagers who put their lives on the line...My grandfather never forgot it,and never stopped telling us not to worry, our neighbouring GCs were "our own GCs" they would never let any harm done to us...And he was right...

thank-you DTA, i appreciate the sentiment, i know what is respect as well, your grandfather, and men like him should never be forgotten because they are heros to us all. only shame brings you to scorn a man like him.

i fight that way, as a Cypriot, the few who know a little of my personal life know how hard i try to represent that good which was made to disappear. this is a story, not unlike the one i could tell, of Humanity, a recognition of self bigger than the Person, not "Greek", not "Turkish", as a man.

cheers!
