and there would have been no killings and no Turkish soldiers, and no refugees and no such suffering that we have known for 50 years and TC's and GC's would still be living next door to one another, not afraid of the other but as brothers of a united cyprus...without independence the Junta would never have been able to expand on the ideology of ENOSIS, and wouild never have been able to seize power of the island, and turkey would never have had a reason to come to the island in the first place...

I think you made a mistake in your sentence
" i see Makarios as a hero because without him there would be no Divided Cyprus at all..."

Cyprus is bigger than any one individual, dear RW,and I am sure it would've survived without Makarios...And as to 'being tired' I must plead guilty...Tired and sick of the whole stupid, political games people have been playing here and elsewhere for too long...But tell me,don't you really see anything wrong with a President coming to power, swearing an oath of Office,to protect and uphold his independent country's constitution and sovereignty, but plotting secretly and not so secretly to hand executive powers to a foreign country??? :?

Maybe at a point in time but is the last 10 years of his predidency and life for that matter he advocated cyprus independence from greece, thats why the coup was enginered in the first place.

I agree that he had changed his tune after the Colonels came to power in Greece, but that does not,in my opinion, absolve him for his earlier trecherous acts...
