Property Issue

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Property Issue

Postby londoner » Sat Dec 11, 2010 8:18 pm

Yesterday special aides Kudret Ozersay and Yorgos Yakovu discussed the economy chapter and searched for ways of convergences on the issue.

They also reciprocally presented papers during the meeting which lasted nearly three hours. The two aides are searching for ways of convergences on many issues until the tripartite meeting scheduled to take place in Geneva by the end of January.

The next meeting between Ozersay and Yakovu will take place on Tuesday the 14th of December.

Have they moved off of the property chapter, if so why?

They will never end or 'move off' the property chapter. They will compromise something to show the international stage that look we are solving the Cyprus Problem (i.e maybe more border openings) everyone will be happy for the time being and the property issue will be back on the table. The newspaper headlines will be 'Two communities come closer but still no answer on property'.

The property issue will never be solved until the Evkaf problem is resolved. The TCs claim they are entitled to 37% of Cyprus because Evkaf still belongs to them and not those GCs who occupy it.

Yet the ECHR has judged that the immigrants, carpetbaggers and TCs who have settled in the north can stay there but must pay compensation to the GC owner.

If one applies the ECHR ruling to Evkaf property in the ROC then the GCs are entitled to keep it free of charge since the compensation was paid to Denktash fifty years ago.

You should google it. If you still fail to find it, I will find it for you.

For Londoner:

When the Republic of Cyprus was established in 1960, it was written in a document, in the attachments of the establishment agreement that, the president of the Evkaf high commission at that time, Dr. Fazıl Küçük, and the community leader Rauf Denktaş made an agreement with the British colonial rule and in return of 1.5 million sterlings, they agreed to not to make any claims concerning evkaf, neither to Britain nor to the new state that is to be established. Since this is an attachment of an international agreement, it became a feature binding all the sides who signed that agreement.

Trying to find the actual article I read.

But this will do for the moment.

You have no claim to Vakif land, Denktash and Kucuk sold it and pocketed the money.
