TRNC PM İrsen Küçük has said that the government plans to announce the establishment of the TRNC’s new national carrier next Tuesday, the 14th of December. The Premier also said that the state was prepared to transfer more of its own shares to private companies if demand arises.
PM İrsen Küçük said that the work to establish a new national airline had reached its final stages.
Reminding that the majority of the new airline’s shares will be owned by the private sector, the Premier said that the state was not insistent on being a large shareholder in the company.
“Our goal is just to create a national airline. We do not have any such conditions on the issue” he added.
Küçük also said that they had increased the percentage of shares allocated for the private sector in response to a high demand coming from the sector.
“We as the government had initially planned to keep our shares in the company below 51%. In response to the high demand from the private sector we raised the percentage of private sector shares to 60 % and reduced the state’s shares to 30%.
He also said that the new company’s share price was lowered from 250 thousand dollars to 100 thousand dollars and that a committee had been set up at the Ministry of Public Works and Communications to manage the issue.
