Turkish Premier for comprehensive study of Armenian issue

December 09, 2010 | 10:28

In response to a journalist’s request to comment on the possibility of Turkey joining the European Union (EU) without settling the problem of Armenian massacres, Turkish Premier Recep Erdogan said that Turkey does not have to meet such a requirement to be admitted to the EU. The issue must be studied from the legal and scholarly aspects. A political approach to it is wrong. Premier Erdogan hopes Polish scholarly community will study the issue, with political implications.

Polish Premier Donald Tusk pointed out that Poland impartially studied the issue in its legal aspect and made a decision.

On April 19, 2005, the Polish Parliament recognized the Armenian Genocide.
