For the benefit of the 'Old Age Pensioners' of the UK, to be sung to the tune of 'White Christmas'.

"I'm dreaming of a serious Christmas,

unlike any I've ever known before,

there are children crying, some old folks dying

and the wolves are howling at the door.

I'm dreaming of a cold Christmas,

wrapped in my blankets tucked in bed,

as I face the future with dread

us old folks would be better off dead".

Not a bad representation of the mood of some of the elderly folk I have spoken to recently, particularly those VERY old who came back from world war 2 and were encouraged to "build a nation fit for heroes to live in" (Sez I)

I'm sure the 'Old Age Pensioners' of the UK are grateful.

5/10 for effort, but thought your syntax needs some work.

No problem mate, I also made a slight error in that I replied to your response but forgot to send it.

I have just returned from the home of an 'Old Soldier' whom I met in the 'Quantock Hills'.

Delightful company, we shared a bowl of 'Scotch Broth' and a bread roll.

I brightened him up somewhat when I presented him with a bottle of 'The Famous Grouse' upon my departure.

I will see him next week-end no doubt, there is no sense in growing old if you don't grow crafty.

A good move to depart immediately after presenting your gift of 'The Famous Grouse' to 'The Old Soldier' - otherwise you might have had to drink some! I'm sure you're settling into one of the better malts now - a 'Talisker' perhaps?

Actually I am currently obliged to avoid alcohol since I must be on good form during the night.

When I do 'Take a drop', my preference (in whiskey) is Glenfiddich although I am a little more inclined towards Brandy when I drink socially.

Must confess that I have never tried 'Talisker' so therefore would not venture to suggest which might be superior.

Champagne is by far the greatest, if the intention is to get 'Rat Arsed' and act as daft as a bunch of bollocks (in my humble opinion) since there are no hangovers the next morning (in my experience).

Enjoy, (whatever your preference may be) with my best wishes.

The 'Talisker' you'll find to be a serious drink with a cheeky edge to it, smooth but capable of rendering one 'legless', somewhat distinct from others, perhaps because of its remote origins. If it was a beer rather than a whisky I'm sure it would have a 'good head'. Sound familiar?

Be careful down there in the South West, it's easy to become fond of the place, and there are few things worse than being grabbed by 'The Quantocks'.
