Easy Dual Booting XP & W7…

Easy Dual Booting XP & W7…

For this test I used two hard disks… 1 x IDE and 1 x SATA.

NB: the SATA boots first by default unless you change it in the BIOS.

If you only have one hard disk for a dual boot it’s a completely different procedure altogether involving a partition manager, not covered in this article.

If you have two hard disks then press on…

1. Connect each hard disk in turn and set the OS up as you like.

2. Connect both hard disks and go into your BIOS setup to set the hard disk containing Windows 7 to boot first.

3. Boot into your Windows 7 hard disk and you should also be able to see the XP hard disk as a secondary drive or you have a problem.

4. While in Windows 7 download, install, and run EasyBCD from here…

5. When you run EasyBCD go straight to the “Add New Entry” tab where you can easily add the other boot disk, give it a name like “Windows XP/SP2”, and set the time delay, etc.

At the next power up you should be presented with a boot menu with the two options to choose from.
