How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

PS - The reference to the book was for Birkibrisli's benefit, incidentally.

Ever since Davut's book on his visions of Neo Ottomman grandeur was published here last year, scores of Greek commentators have been writing glowing comments about Turkeish diplomacy. In the end it seems the Turks are no different than other Balkanites, well not on all things anyway. The Turks manage to have infinite cynicism and accept as normal such things as multiple swiss accounts and other vices in their leaders and keep their mouths shut.

This wikileaks thing is a lot bigger than it looks. Cannot wait for all the documents to be revealed.

Erdoğan is a crook? The AKP is an Islamist party? My goodness me, the revelations never cease.

I was seriously contemplating starting another thread wıth a huge 'revelation' such as "Turkey has renamed Constantinople Istanbul - shock, horror", but thought the better of it.

I have started reading Hanef Avcı's book. Now these are indeed revelations, even though nothing comes as a great surprise. I think this book will interest you if you can hold of it 'down under'.

Thanks,Tim...My sister is visiting us from Ankara for the New Year, she will bring a copy...I am looking forward to reading it...

I have just found the whole book on the net, in fact:

http://xa.yimg.com/kq/groups/18675482/1 ... MONLAR.pdf

Well worth a look, I would say. Something useful to do while these twerps here keep amazing us with 'revelations' that have been the subject of conversation in every coffee house in Turkey for years.

Overdoing it a little with the pomposity aren't we? Not everyone can read Turkish (seeing as this book you're talking about is in Turkish makes it pretty useless to the mere mortals that skipped that class in high school). The entire planet is finding these revelations fascinating or is that the time you've spent in Turkey has also given you access to the room when US and Turkish diplomats meet?

I take it you stumble across US officials accussing the Turkish PM of corruption every day of your life. Of course you do, you're Tim! The Turkish English translator!

I also take it you come across US officials commenting on the intelligence isolation the Turkish PM has had. Off course you do! You're Tim the Turkish translator!

May I also assume that the up to now considered genius Davutoglou by Turkish allies and foes and which has recently been labelled by US diplomats as an Ottoman bungling anachromism of a politician was also in your knowledge......Off course it was....You're Tim.

I don't usually rant over people I don't know but this guy has pushed the whole Turkish Intelligensia persona too far.

Thank you for your kind words. Much appreciated.

Don't take it personally, if you knew a little about the Cypriot culture you'd probably understand where I'm coming from.

What am I saying? You're Tim! the Translator!!

No one's attacking you for your views (at least I'm not) I'm attacking you at the arrogance in which you seem to deal with those that do not have the same "enlightened view" of the world as you do.

You can believe anything you like as far as I'm concerned, its when people act like pricks that get me.

You are quite right to reproach me. I will go back to silently following the infantile rantings of the wacko fundamentalist Greek nationalist fringe that dominates this forum and have a quiet chuckle at what they believe to be anti-Turkish propaganda which only serves to demonstrate how ignorant they are of their intended target. Of course, the Greeks invented irony, and only they are entitled to use it. It is a great mistake to infrahumanise one's foe - that is my last pronouncement.

Good piece by David Romano on Turkish hysteria over the leaked documents:

While leaders like Mr. Berlusconi, Gaddafi and Merkel laughed off or ignored unflattering cables about them, Prime Minister Erdogan exploded: “This is the United States’ problem, not ours... Those who have slandered us will be crushed under these claims, will be finished and will disappear!” It almost sounds like a Godfather film, except in this case a head of state seems to threaten to ‘disappear’ U.S. diplomats. In case that turns out to be a little difficult (perhaps an advisor just whispered something in Mr. Erdogan’s ear), plan B appears equally implausible: “My friends are working [to take action] against these diplomats in terms of national and international law. We will continue this process there. Thereafter, they [the diplomats] have to think [about the consequences]....We have discussed these issues with the U.S. administration. They have extended their apologies, but it’s not enough. They have to take all necessary measures against these diplomats.” It seems Mr. Erdogan thinks he can sue U.S. diplomats for libel, based on what they wrote about him in secret cables to their superiors in Washington D.C.. Hey, if it works on journalists at home, why not abroad?

Not to be outdone, Mr. Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party (AKP) deputy leader, Hüseyin Çelik, made a speech accusing Israel of having master minded the whole wikileaks business ...

Tim,
Thanks for the link for the online version of Avci's book...It is perhaps fortunate that some of our GC interlocuters here do not speak Turkish...I'd hate to think what they would make of the allegations in that book... :)

How dare you attempt to correct certain delusions some of our GC friends here have about Turkey...??? They don't want to know the truth or the reality...They just want to hear that it is only a matter of time before Turkey would implode,or failing that explode, and failing that be invaded and beaten to a pulp by Israel, and failing that by the great EU Army, and failing that simply disappear from the face of the earth in some divine act of retribution for all the ills the Turks have done in Cyprus!!! Then they can have a field day cutting those pesty TCs into little pieces for their part in stopping the great dream of Enosis with Greece...Ignorance is bliss, and our friends here deserve to have their share of it... :)

Hermes, is a different thing to be president of a normal country such as Italy,France or Germany and different to be the successor of an Ottoman empire leadership. Ertogan and his foreign minister demanding the respect an Anatolian emperror must have.
