Sharing the Shame

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

In 1919, when Greece, encouraged by France among others, invaded Asia Minor, level-headed Greek people with rational thought, who were of course labelled as traitors at the time were asking: "Do you know what you are doing? Do you realise what you are playing with?"

When the inevidable happened and disaster struck there was a surge of soul searching among Greek people and it was easy to convlude that the country fell victim to the unrepented patriots of the pavements who in 1897 did exactly the same thing and as a result the Turkish army came to the outskirts of Athens.

Calling someone you disagree with, a traitor, is a characteristic of the lower forms of life. It is a vestigial remnant of the barbaric culture that has played havoc with our lives for so long. As long as people like ChomskyFan (and His Excellency) find people to cheer them on everytime they cry "traitor" our society will rermain sick and vulnerable to all malices

Bananiot, the Minor Asia Catastrophe happened because of the complete incompetence of the Generals and Politicians in pushing ahead for Ankara before the Supply Lines were fixed in place properly.

That is not my point but since you mentioned it the Greek army had to pursue the Turkish army which was reorganising and getting ready to attack. All successes of the Greeks were against the irregulars and as long as the Turkish army remained undefeated there was no way hostilities would cease.

By the way, Venizelos at the time had been kicked out, by the shouting patriots. The king who was pro German assumed controlled and Greece lost all her allies. The writing was on the wall.

Here in Cyprus we now have very few allies. Those with political and military clout have diserted us. This is a very scary situation to be in ...

Correction, it happened because of Greek attempts at expansionism, taking advantage of the perceived weakness of her neighbour.

It is how all country created, and all of us are not from middle asia, we are also locals of country, asimilated by turks. So I think we have same "if not more" claim at this land than greeks. So you tried to take our land. But what you took is different.

What about the Greeks that were 'locals' of your country, way before any Turk came into existence, to which you kicked out or murdered?
