NO! They did not say they would choose the "TRNC" over the EU.

Turkey would choose CYPRUS over the EU because without Cyprus they are NOTHING and will shatter into a thousand pieces!

Then they should withdraw their application to join the EU. Why haven't they done so? What are they waiting for?

They have not been challenged to do so or asked to choose.

The choice is built into the accession process and the Cypriot veto. The process has ground to a halt precisely because Turkey has refused to fulfill its obligations towards the EU and Cyprus. The EU has made it clear that the ball is in Turkey's court.

what turkey states and whats really going on in turkey are two very different things. they need the eu more then they allow us to believe. they dont want to seem desperate for eu like they will do anything, but blackmail and threats to join eu where pretty bad

Brilliant. Now do you want to explain how Turkey gets into the EU while occupying Cyprus?

That is not my problem...I am simply stating my opinion...If Turkey is not admitted to the EU,Cyprus problem will NEVER be solved...If you people want a solution then you will have to think of how to make it easy for Turkey to be admitted...You will need to be very creative, ingenious ,and brave... :)

But it is very easy for Turkey to unblock its EU accession process. All it has to do is solve the Cyprus issue by withdrawing its troops and settlers and allowing refugees to return to their homes. How much simpler do we have to make it for you?

You are asking for the impossible,Hermes...Turkey will never leave Cyprus until there is a comprehensive and final solution...Cyprus is a matter of national honour for the Turks...And if you knew them as I know them, you'd understand why...But you don't,so you think it is simple for them to just walk away...The way to get Turkey to do anything is not by threatening them,or trying to blackmail them...That makes them only more determined to stay...It is not in their national psych to be seen to give in to such demands...You have to make them feel they are giving you something out of their own generocity and kind heartedness. That is why I said your approach has to be intelligent, ingenious and brave...

Hermes, just to translate what Bir has said.

Stand to attention
Turn and face away
Pull down you trousers
Bend
Scream Allah Akhber
Then when its done, say thank you your excellence.

This is the sum total of what the Turkeys want, well I give you Mr Eward Stadler, he words will now make up my tag line.

That wasn't quite what I meant, but it might work just as well...

Fine. They can start by giving us back occupied Cyprus. We, in turn, promise to thank them for their "generosity and kind-heartedness". Would that make them feel good?

You are a mother ,Oracle..You ought to know...There are some children you can control by threads of punishment, but there are others who need to be treated in other ways if you want them to do what you want...Nations are not much different..That is all I am saying...

Your example above will not work, because you are demanding it...You have to find subtler ways to make Turkey believe they are the ones who are offering it to you...See the difference???
