Turkey is so late for a Solution

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Turkey is so late for a Solution

Postby Kibrisli Turk » Wed Nov 24, 2010 9:25 pm

Turkey is so late for a Cyprus solution. Exactly what is Turkey's policy on Cyprus after so many failed promises and attempts in establishing some kind of seperate Turkish Cypriot state on the island? Is Turkey for real or do they really believe that we Cypriot Turks are not worth the time of day, as it appears so.

I've wondered why Turkey doesn't push for recognition of the "TRNC". Has it just given up after a 'strong start" (invasion, occupation, declaration)? Yes, it still threatens it will do this if so and so is not met, but NOTHING has been met and it still has not sought recognition (c.f. Taiwan, Kosovo as its 'role-models').

That's something the "Turkish Cypriots" hate to think about so they pretend it’s not an issue!

Even today in the NY Times we read:

"Mr. Rasmussen and the E.U.’s foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, are working together to break the deadlock, and the United Nations is stepping up efforts to restart talks over Cyprus. If all three fail in their endeavors, analysts say an ever-confident Turkey might push for international recognition of the Turkish-Cypriot part of the island, akin to the status of Taiwan or Kosovo.

“The status quo cannot be sustained,” Mr. Ulgen said."

Well, what is stopping them after all this time? :D

I'm afraid so my friend. Greece isn't involved anymore, turkey has other priorities that include this island for it's own reasons and interests (as does every country look rightly after it's own interests) the bottom line is if everyone who has a voice on the international stage is after his own interests then the tc community is a forgotten liability.

The ROC has made huge mistakes along the way but right now you have an opportunity to join the united republic of Cyprus with a president that has offered rotating presidency to an 18 per cent minority (in it's good days) and the citizenship to 50,000 settlers. This is the only entity right now that is offering a future to this community and your leadership's response is that they cannot discuss property and land distribution due to the green line realities.

The fact that they risk making complete fools of themselves and especially after the Israeli flotilla debacle!

...unfortunately KT it appears that Turkey has no interest in the lives of turcophones or grecophones in Cyprus. "you" as a Cypriot are not "Turkish" enough. Turkey is not "for real".

...welcome to the forum, cheers!

Oracle: Turkey DOESN'T believe in the Recognition of a seperate Turkish Cypriot independent Republic without its control as it doesn't trust the Turkish Cypriot people. It's scared that they will unite with ALL Cypriot and break down all barriers and military bases, which is also why Britain doesn't want unification. And which is why Britain desperately supported the Confederal partition idea-driven "Annan Plan".

correct. Turkey never want reconized TRNC like you GC's.
And it is not an issue for me, for us, but, it seems, it will become an issue, after all those stupid beahviors of GC's towards us TC's.
So, partition is futile
