A reply from Jack Straw

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

A reply from Jack Straw

Postby Jerry » Wed Nov 24, 2010 1:54 pm

I wrote to Jack Straw earlier this month. Today I received a reply.

Dear Mr Straw,

The Cyprus problem may be tiny to you but it is not to the 200,000 Cypriots who were forced from their homes by “our wonderful NATO ally”. Turkey claimed its right of intervention under the 1960 Treaty of Guarantee but failed to implement its obligation to restore the status ante. Both sides are to blame for what happened in Cyprus in the 1950s and 60s but the way forward is not to offer Cyprus as a sacrificial lamb simply to appease Turkey.

What Turkey has done in Cyprus by settling mainland Turks on Greek Cypriot land is illegal, as a former Justice Minister you should know that. You should also be aware that Turkey has, and continues to, illegally deny Greek Cypriots access to Greek Famagusta for no reason other than malice and spite.

I enclose a copy of a recent Guardian report by Robert Ellis that deals with Turkey and its EU aspirations.

Yours etc.

Not exactly a response to what I said, no doubt sent hundreds of identical replies.

I reckon he must be on Ankara's payroll otherwise why would he say about the Cyprus problem "these are not the fault of those in charge at present"

The man's an idiot, thank God he is no longer in Government.

Shallom

I would NOT describe Jack Straw as a ειρηνοποιοs: his idea is more that of the "Pax Romana", which I persoanlly reject.

Any proper solution has got to include a united Island, with, as far as is possible, all Cypriots able to return to the homes. The Turkish army should go taking the settlers and the Orams of the world with them.

Well said Jack Straw about time people spoke out about the one sided situation which should no longer allow GCs to manipulate the situation. They should know full well that if they do not agree a solution partition will be recognized.

Give me ONE good reason why any country out there would support 50,000 Turkish separatists in Cyprus (NB: not Turkey but Cyprus!) who don’t even have an economy let alone anything else to offer!
