The court of world opinion has already decided

There will still be those who maintain Cyprus doesn't need foreign investors and that developers who now have criminal records will continue as successfully as before because they are so 'rich' that a mere criminal conviction will not matter to them.

Court of World Opinion had already delivered its own judgement and was already administering its own collective punishment. The particular defendant company will be lucky to survive, given the extent of the global media antipathy towards the defendants.

Whatever the public position of the Cyprus establishment in apparently supporting errant developers in general in their appalling and often fraudulent treatment of buyers, they are now definitely feeling the pain of the consequences. The entire property industry and the economy as a whole will continue to be punished by the on-going failure to correct the title deeds-cum-fraud scandal. The latest Conor O'Dwyer judgement will simply ensure that foreign buyers do not return for some years, even if the government took drastic corrective action today.

All trust and confidence has gone. The boycott by foreign buyers may even be permanent.

This man has written quite a lot about the property industry in Cyprus, none of it favourable, here is another quote from him which was in the online financial mirror:-

"Apart from culling the ‘bad apples’, what is also needed, in effect, is an embedded cultural change in the property industry and the wider population. This will take many years. It can't be bludgeoned into people. Changing deep-seated attitudes and behaviours in a whole population can only come about if the population sees clear benefits from the change, i.e. enlightened self-interest. Remember, the problem of rusfeti, 'cheating' i.e. fraud, cigar-cigar and laissez-faire does not just involve neatly packaged groups such as 'bad developers', 'dodgy lawyers', 'low integrity bankers' and 'incompetent and inefficient civil servants'. These entities exist and flourish in a wider society that nourishes them. The carrot is Cyprus’s return to economic prosperity and a respected status as a high integrity/high reputation investment location. The stick is economic decline and a low reputation among foreign buyers and investors.
A twin-track approach is needed involving the faster-paced pressure from CPAG, the EU, foreign governments, international media, etc. plus pro-active peer pressure from the honest but thus far silent individuals within the industry itself.

CONCLUSION
One might imagine that the Cyprus property market's current Ice Age might have already concentrated minds and galvanized action to attract foreign buyers back by the industry cleaning up its own mess. It was not compulsory that mastodons and dinosaurs should survive a sudden and lengthy change in climate. It is not compulsory that the Cyprus property market should survive a sustained loss of customers"

By the way, have you guys watched the movie Greenberg? It is about the life of some loser whose only pleasure was to write to newspapers and complain about things. It is drama/comedy, but still quite funny in some parts :)

Far as I can see Sotos this forum is full to its brim with members re-posting others opinions if it in the slightest agrees with theirs, of course once we get onto anything that paints Cyprus in a different light, its immediately dismissed by the bermuda triangle trio as rubbish whinging moaning disrespectful etc etc etc.

As its an open forum and admin feel we are doing as we should, then we shall continue.

Maybe he's a nobody but practically any quotes that are posted on here are mostly nobodies, its all about the debate after is,nt it.

The forum is full of complaints by everyone!!

The world does,nt agree I think you will have to get used to it.
