It didn't happen. Despite her calls for them to hurry up etc.

Then convinced themselves that admittance to the EU was more important to Turkey than anything else and that Turkey would have to agree to whatever conditions the RoC insisted upon re a settlement.

Now it is maybe looking like that might not be entirely true as well.

So what next?

Are all hopes pinned on Turkey being more desperate to join the EU than anything else or what?

Don't worry,Gasman, they will find some other delusion to occupy their feable minds till reality truly slaps them across the face...I am beginning to think they prefer to stay in their fools paradise and hope their fantasies will one day win the day for them...That day is very slow in coming, but that doesnt seem to worry them...for fools hope seems to be eternal!

Turkish President Abdullah Gül and French President Nicolas Sarkozy had an angry exchange over Iran at this weekend’s NATO summit in Lisbon, according to reports in the Turkish media.

Sarkozy had been insisting on naming Iran as the main source of a potential nuclear attack, something NATO decided not to do in the end and a prospect of much concern to Turkey.

Forget including any country. The missile shield project should not target any country,” Gül told Sarkozy

What's the big secret? Sarkozy went ahead and named Iran as the target anyway. As the nearest NATO country to Iran it makes sense that the NATO missile shield should be deployed in Turkey.

We are all grateful to Turkey for helping to protect the West and Israel from the mad mullahs. Now all Turkey and Gul have to do is to explain to their Islamic friends what it's playing at by uniting with Christians and Zionists to protect Israel. Good luck with that one.

You cant be serious Bir, First of all the EU is not as shortsighted as you think. What are Turkey's choices other then to recognize the ROC as the legitimate government of Cyprus. These guys play their games a decade before you and I see their hand. If Turkey doesnt commit to the West economically, politically they have a spear in Cyprus pointed right at Turkey's belly.

Nobody had illusions that the EU would step in and solve the problem, or even that Turkey would rush in to do so after Cyprus's accession.

However, EU entry substantially reduced the risk of further military aggression by Turkey and at the same time created the context and potential for an eventual solution, in the long-term, on a fair basis.

Of course Turkey would be stupid not to hold/stall and offer such a solution only at the very final stage of its own accession process, IF and WHEN it gets there i.e. use Cyprus as the final bargaining chip for entry.

All it is prepared to accept now is an AP-type solution, which siimply legalises the theft.. as this is unacceptable to GCs, we will all have to wait for some time.. unless Turkey decides that it is prepared to offer a more balanced plan now and get rid of the problem.. (this would still cost her a lot less than what she will have to pay if she waits till the end..)
