List of misquotations
This page consists of things that many people think are correct quotations but are actually incorrect. This does not include quotations that were actually blunders by the people that said them.
"Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely."
Notes: This misquote hearkens back to the British Lord Acton, a 19th century English historian who was commenting about tyrant monarchs (Caesar, Henry VIII, Napoleon, various Russian Tsars, etc.). Lord Acton actually wrote: "Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men."
Can't you give her half a point for getting the semi colon in the right place and leave it at that?
It's not the worst O misquote on the forum. Some have been total inventions in a heading and the words used not found ANYWHERE in the actual quoted text!
