Another 'Has-Been' - Hannay weighs in via AlJazeera

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

The professor Ahmed was very lucky that they run out of time when he was asked "do you think Turkish Cypriots would be amenable to ... a bit of a land swap ... and allowing Greek Cypriots who use to own land in the north to move back there?"

Very lucky indeed.

What was said in the programme that was undeniable was that the bbf is a compromise between the two parties. I think that the gc think that the bbf is only a compromise a by them and not us.

Professor Ahmed also had his location as "Kyrenia" and not "Girne".!

I wonder who's idea was that.?

Perhaps AlJazeera's, just to keep up with accurate programing.!

how is bbf a compromise by the turks? you guys get two states and power over the south! its better then just partition for you... you would thing that turks would be very happy with either bbf or parittiion

I think the ideal situation for the majority of tcs would be the recognition of the tc state along with it being accepted in the eu. I also think that gcs ideally would want a unitary state with the tcs being just a minority. Therefore I think the bbf is a compromise on both sides, although I think a bbf would be better for turkey for the reasons you mention.

Also if I was a gc I would be pissed off if my president started negotiations from the beginning, what he should of done was negotiated from the Annan plan as starting point and although this would have been worse for us (tcs) I think talat was so pro unification he would have gone for it.

Additionally what the gcs don't seem to understand is that the anan plan was far from perfect for us, in fact if it was accepted in 9 years fom now you would have had just about everything you have wanted, as a lot of ttim'failsafes that tcs insisted on were only until 2020. I am not an expert on the plan so feel free to point out if I am wrong.

not all tcs want partition in any form.. my tc friends say they will leave cyprus if partition happens they want unitary state also, they hate mainland turks and want them to go home... they currently live in the trnc

bbf for the turks is getting what you want and taking extra... if thats your idea of compromise i hate to see what you call take.. only gcs are doing that give give give and turk side is take take take.. i cant think of ONE compromise from the turkish side so far not one..

Palio it has just been stated to you we want partition but we have compromised by accepting a BBF with political equality of the two states.
