Tilting at windmills

Postby bsharpish » Thu Nov 18, 2010 10:23 pm

Driving past the latest, scar on the landscape ,European boondoggle instance of pure economic theft ( pissouri windfarm)got me thinking-

Does the average man in the street understand the shockingly wastefull con trick that is renewable energy or more to the point do we care.

so a few questions on this and other green issues -

1. Do you care enough to pay 6-8 times the price for energy (thats the real cost of windpower)in order to promote conservation OR Do you want cheap power at the flick of a switch ?

2. Would you rather eat low cost staple foods with a GM element and in doing so reduce starvation throughout the whole world OR pay through the nose for foods which ( in combination with Q3) mean people go hungry?

3. Are you happy with petrol and diesel power, with its enviromental issues, in your car OR do you want heavily subsidised (ethanol) and land intensive\bio diversity destroying bio diesels ( palm oil based) which take up valuable arable land all over the world ?

And while the west punishes itself with renewables

The Chinese, in the last 15 years, alone ( India's not far behind) have built more coal fired power stations and factories than the whole of the developed world combined -- many experts predict the short term impact will be global cooling but long term the extra CO2 is worrying.

You should be thrown into a furnace of a coal fired power station.
