I'm trying to collect stories all over the island of Cyprus about buried treasures.
Anything you heard just say it...
thanks in advance

I was reading about Cato (Elder and Younger) this afternoon.

Cato the Younger, who was reputedly incorruptible, was stationed in Cyprus (few decades BC). Cyprus was full of gold and silver (then), and Cato in possession of 7,000 talents of silver (a lot) hid them for returning back to Rome. But he lost them as he was setting off to sea .... :D

I was digging in my rear garden with the intention of planting a large established palm tree, which was surplus to requirements for a development close by.

I unearthed a very ancient and somewhat battered old oil- lamp ( or such I thought it to be) and took it into the house for cleaning.

I knew it to be made of some metal and hoped it was either gold or silver and I could see that there were also some precious stones encrusted around the top.

My excitement grew as the beauty of the article began to reveal itself and I began to polish one side quite feverishly.

There was a sudden puff of smoke from the spout, a turbaned Genii popped out, grabbed the pot and made off laughing as he headed off towards the Pentadaktylos Mountains, I am sure he was Turkish on account of his baggy pants and turned up toes.

I planted my tree with the front of it facing the way he departed.
