Italian senator Paolo Amato becomes "trnc citizen"

Postby Kikapu » Wed Nov 17, 2010 4:50 pm

First of all, I thought this guy became a "trnc citizen" a year or so ago.??

Anyway, that's not important to the point I wanted to make.

I was under the impression, that to become a "trnc citizen", one needs to have some "Turkish Blood" in them as well to be able to speak the Turkish language. I don't know if this Amato character fulfills either one of those prerequisites, which I doubt that he can, doesn't it then not open the way for the GCs and other foreigners in Cyprus to also apply to become "trnc citizens" in their thousands.?? How can the north refuse them to become one. Surely, they have now set the bar in the north that a foreigner can become a "trnc citizen" and that the ECHR will be able to support any applicants who may be refused by the north for the same courtesy given to Amato.!

Italian Senator Paolo Amato became a citizen of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Tuesday.

Italian Senator is currently in TRNC to attend celebrations to mark the 27th foundation anniversary.

TRNC Foreign Minister Huseyin Ozgurgun told a news conference that TRNC Council of Ministers approved application of Amato to become TRNC citizen.

Ozgurgun said he has the full belief that Amato would defend rights of Turkish Cypriot people.

Italian Senator Amato said he felt honor to become TRNC citizen, adding that the best way to express the closeness felt towards a community which suffered a lot was to become an active member of it.
Amato said he has chosen Northern Cyprus as his second motherland which stemmed from ethical and cultural belief.

"Being an Italian and Turkish Cypriot, I will endeavor to defend rights and values of TRNC. I will be in an effort to attract the attention of Italy and the EU to Cyprus question," Amato said adding that he considered Cyprus question as a key of the agenda determining relations between Italy and Turkey.

I was born in Kyrenia, Can I become a "citizen"? Also some "Turkish" Cypriots do not have "Turkish" blood and speak better Greek Cypriot dialect than Turkish. I even know one family with a Turkish surname and first names who send their kids to a Greek Orthodox School in Sydney. Can they become citizens?

Do these people want to live in the TRNC under our administration? this would have to happen first they would apply for residence in the TRNC then after 10 years they can apply.
