AngloINFO forums - worse than the communist days

Postby dodo » Wed Nov 17, 2010 3:34 am

This joke of a website that unfortunately still makes a pretty penny is really pathetic. In their greedy mission of making more money they are creating the most UN-democratic forum I've had the chance to visit/be a member of.

Let's start with an example:
Hello xxxxxxxx

You have been sent the following message from : Admin ([email protected]) via: http://cyprus.angloinfo.com/forum/link. ... _id=xxxxxx

Sorry, but your posting (below) to AngloINFO Cyprus's Classifieds & Discussions has been removed.

When asked by another member to respond by telephone you must not make a public posting to the Classifieds & Discussions.

How many km's ?
Air conditioning/electric windows ?
Photos ?
Location is Nicosia or elsewhere ?

I am now officially giving up ever visiting this forums. I've had messages repeatedly deleted, this is just an example where I was asking about a car ad, for more details and it's deleted, many other postings are being deleted with the exact same message, which clearly doesn't concern the message in question.

Whenever any discussion comes of Cyprus, as a country, only "good discussions" are allowed, never any problems, difficulties that foreigners face or even me once posting about how come there hasn't been rain for so long this year.

This AngloINFO B**l$hit website is trying to paint some idyllic image of this island, as many other websites are doing, it's really shameful in this millennium to have this kind of censorship on virtual, Internet forums, as if there's not enough censorship and betrayals in the "real" world.

I'm sure some of you here are members or maybe visited this AngloINFO and how do you feel about it, did you experience deleted posts , etc.

I've even wrote some emails to the head offices (UK) that manage all the AngloINFO's as they've got a nice lucrative business operating franchises on a thing that should be friggin' free in the first place ! , and their response was one simply rude telling me to either obey their Orwellian rules or end my membership and that I have to right to question their decisions to keep the forums that way, etc.

As a matter of fact I even posted their reply right away for other users to see (good thing i don't have static IP and I made another account:lol:) - but of course it got deleted in less than 10 minutes .

Anyway, I say boycott AngloINFO, piece of garbage site, long live democratic, free-speech forums/website like cyprus-forum.com :D

It’s funny that on every other forum they have dictatorial Admins/owners and courteous members, but here on the CF we have a very fair & square Admin but very nasty members!

My self included!

So did you post a public response when asked not to, and if so, why?

They also are sense of humourless. The slightest bit of joviality just disappears, and you don't get told why.

lol! I fell foul of this silly rule some years ago. I'd phoned a telephone number given for an item for sale - got this old dear on the other end wailing about how she wasn't well and shouldn't be bothered by the telephone and it wasn't her who put the ad in and how I'd got her off the toilet rofl!

All I said was it might be better if they gave their own telephone number as the person on the other end didn't seem to be expecting calls.

I also got a tirade of abusive PMs from them about it boring me to death with how the item was at their mothers and thats why they gave her number and how I shouldn't have phoned so late in the evening (it was before 7pm!) and how it had made her mother even MORE ill now!

Unbelievable - but quite hilarious.

However, on the subject of the forum in general. Yes, I believe too that it looks at Cyprus through heavily rose tinted specs and would seem the ideal forum for all those on here who can stand not one word of criticism about Cyprus or anything Cypriot!

They won't have to put up with anyone complaining about anything on there.

I agree with everything you said above, especially the bold bit.

they just want you to pay to advertise, simple. Once they have spotted you, look out. I know people trading on there, but seems the thickos at Anglo have noticed pft!

Good on them I say (not Anglo that is  )

Hopefully they will go like the DODO
