and a larger group of naïve and incompetent foreigners coming to settle in Cyprus,

I think that it has already been mentioned on one of the threads ( I really cannot be arsed to look it up) That this sort of thing doesn't happen away from the tourist areas (ie Nicosia)I wonder why that is??

Exactly! We hear these stories and wonder if they're from another planet!

There are 330,000 people in Nicosia and I've never heard of anything going foul!

It’s always in Paphos and Paralimni where the peasants live! We had those areas closed off for decades for good reasons and then the Brits had to come along and settle with them!

Naive, maybe, hence the use of Cyprus lawyers, i mean they won't be incompetent or naive will they ? If so step in Cyprus justice system to help the 'incompetent' out from the conmen. Lets hope so anyway.

My father was cypriot and i was raised within a very large cypriot community in Glasgow. The most decent, warm, hospitable people you could ever hope to meet. Those people would do anything to help you. As i said in my earlier post, i have been coming to Cyprus for the past 40 years and have always retained that same view of cypriots. Yes, i have been conned, yes, i have been naive and yes, a bit incompetent but that does not make me deserving of my plight. My overall impression of cypriots since i arrived five years ago hasnt altered despite everything that has happened. There are always bad apples to be found and unfortunately for me, i found them. I took everything they said as the truth and i placed my trust in them. To me, those people should be ashamed to call themselves cypriots! They are vile predators and a stain on this beautiful island.

Hear hear. Some of the posters on this forum have altered my overall view. You can find crooks in any country. But to have them being cheered on and admired by those who claim to be upright and honest is another matter. Even worse when they mock and laugh at the victims of the crooks. I now do wonder just how many friendly helpful GCs are as two faced as some here are.
