CYPRIOTS are a kind, passionate people, believe in a fair go, love to enjoy life, are anti-authoritarian, are egalitarian, and have a strong sense of family. CYPRIOTS are a very proud and direct people, can become very defensive at times (some slack required here) and generally have a good sense of humour! Cypriots are a very hospitable people, and offer everyone plenty of good old fashion philoxenia. They love to argue about anything from Football to Politics and even the weather. They enjoy their food and enjoy a social drink and get together.
All in all, I have been to many countries, and I find that Cypriots are strikingly similar to Australians more than anyone else!
A very beautiful and jovial people (INMHO)...
I think that the above is a very fair generalization which deals more with the 'Natural' than the 'Political' characteristics of the 'True Cypriot'.
Were it not for the interference of outside influences, the Cypriot population would have remained unsullied and thoughts of differences between G/C and T/C would never have become large issues.
Unfortunately the geographical position of Cyprus is of such value militarily, there HAD to be a scheme (or predetermined plan) that would ensure that the niceties of Cypriot culture would either be destroyed or moulded into that which would be better suited to the objectives of the said 'Schemers and Planners'.
Today, we see the result of such political and military 'Scheming and Planning', such has been successfully applied (according to one's perspective) in various other parts of the world, where the older generation invariably look back in wonder at what has happened to their once harmonious lives.
It is probable therefore, that the 'True Cypriot' characteristic is no longer visible, but hidden in the hearts of the older generation.
As to the remark about the similarities between the 'Aussies' and the 'True Cypriot', I would absolutely agree were it not for one significant point (gleaned from my own experience) and relevant to the comparisons of 'The Sheilas' , I thought they definitely had a little too much to say for themselves in Australia, it's getting to be that way in Cyprus too, come to think of it.
No disrespect to either party, you may of course disagree.
