Foreign Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün said that statements in Turkey’s progress report concerning the Cyprus issue were unacceptable. In a written statement issued yesterday, Özgürgün said that the issue of Turkey opening its ports to Greek Cypriot traffic was directly linked to the Cyprus Issue.

The TRNC Foreign Minister pointed out that the statements in the report implying that the Turkish Side was responsible for the non-solution of the Cyprus Problem was totally unacceptable.

Reminding that it was the Greek Cypriot Administration which in 2004 had condemned the island to a non-solution by rejecting the UN sponsored Annan Plan, Özgürgün said that it was disappointing to see that the European Union adopted a biased stance on the Cyprus Issue.

“It is disappointing to see that the European Union is adopting a biased stance by failing to call on the Greek Cypriot Administration to be more active in finding a solution to the Cyprus Problem. This has led to a loss of trust towards the EU” he added.

Foreign Minister Özgürgün also said that the European Commission continued to adopt an unjust stance concerning the implementation of the additional protocol to the customs union.
