The fraudulent ...Duty Free Shops!!!

Postby miltiades » Wed Nov 10, 2010 8:09 am

It is a well known fact by those with half a brain that Duty Free shops with the exemption of cigarettes and spirits are a ripoff of the highest order. Coming over to Cyprus while killing time browsing at the various shops I came directly outside Lacoste shop , instinctively I recalled when I was riped off some months back when I bought 3 and not even a bloody pocket ! I couldn't help hearing a young couple talking in Greek , Christo she said lets see some Lacoste t-Shirts , I followed them into the ...den and after excitedly proclaiming to Christos that the Lacoste T- Shirts were so much cheaper in the duty free she helped him pick 2 at a mere ..... 85.00 quid each !!!!! They appeared to be a young affluent couple maybe on their honeymoon since they were constantly holding hands and no doubt with a few Euros in their pockets , and indeed Euros is what they had to pay with , perhaps I thought to my self money received in envelopes at their wedding , I'm usually rather good at sussing people out. Off to the Cashier they take their two T-Shirts , that will be 170.00 pounds please , the foreign geezer behind the till said, I was gobsmacked to say the least with memories of the last few months speeding passed my puzzled brain , as they pulled out their money , Euros , I got closer to the Cypriot geezard as he presented the foreign gizzard with 4 x 50 Euro bills , sorry the cashier said that is not enough , the Euro rate is ....1.30 to the pound so its 221 euros !!! ( the officiall
MMR at the time 1.14 ) Without as much as flinching an eye I tap the young man on the shoulder and said to him in Greek , File let me have your 200 euros I will pay for your T-Shirts , he was very very happy having saved himself 21 euros , if he had any bloody brain he would have saved him self a lot more by staying away from this rip off merchants.
The moral of the story some time back I bought 3 Lacoste T--Shirts for a tenner !!! The lot !!! My profit on the exchange rate with the Cypriot couple amounted to 11.30 euros about the cost of my 3 Lacoste T-Shirts !!!!
Meeting Kafenes today so I shall wear my green Lacoste that cost me ....nothing courtesy of the newly weds !!!!

M , fancy coming to Limassol Saturday for a beer ?
Had a brilliant time in Paphos today meeting Kafenes for coffee at the old port then for lunch at a terrific venue , his gorgeous wife joined us and we had a fantastic meal consisting of Japanese starters followed by a massive amount of Med Prawns , Kalamari and all the accompaniments. I couldn't drink much since I was driving to Stroumbi , you know the Great , so I had to be ...careful.
Great time and I thank Kafenes for his hospitality which I look forward in reciprocating. He will no mind Im sure me mentioning again how beautiful and lovely his young wife is.

There is no Duty Free EU to EU country flights. Even before the EU, frequent travellers knew Duty Free was a rip off.
