Jack Straw utters the TRUTH

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Gasman » Thu Nov 11, 2010 10:30 am

What I read was that (in the event of a settlement being reached) and as a sort of 'incentive' or reward ... PART OF the Eastern SBA would be handed over - I am reading further stuff on this at the moment.

If I'd seen it in an Asiatic obscure blog (like some of the stuff O posts here), I wouldn't even have mentioned it.

It was probably House of Commons docs or similar.

Hey! Maybe even your beloved Cyprus Mail! lol!

Tell us about the first time.

Once upon a time, in 1955, the cypriot people were faced with a vicious beast. One day a small group of about 250 old men and boys had had enough of this beast and took it on head first.

For a period of 4 years the giant beast (aka UK) could not handle this small liberation group, they were getting their asses kicked daily so in the end, they gave up and gave the country back. The rest is history.

EOKA For ever.

I'm sorry, I thought GR implied the CNG threw the British Army out.
GR, please be more factual and less fanciful in your recollections.

Jack Straw is not the first to call openly for Partition. I've just been having a little read of Europe Report 190 from the Crisis Group. - REVERSING THE DRIFT TO PARTITION

OPEN SUPPORT FOR PARTITION
In August 2007, Marios Matsakis, the most outspoken
Greek Cypriot member of the European Parliament, broke
a community taboo, calling his government’s drive to solve
the Cyprus problem by assimilating individual Turkish
Cypriots into its administrative structures unrealistic:
I said I would prefer two separate states, and then
they can take on their own responsibilities on how
to proceed. I said I was fed up, and a lot of Greek
Cypriots were fed up because the Turkish Cypriots
were having a privileged citizenship of the Republic
of Cyprus. They get free medical care, they don’t
pay any taxes. Some of them get free electricity, and
on top of that they accuse us of isolating them. They
are selling their properties in the south and at the
same time they are using and stealing our properties
in the north.…If they don’t want to be with us,
we have to stop pretending and face the facts. The
Turkish Cypriots must realise if they want a twostate
solution, they will be outside the EU and if
they satisfy the criteria, and if we want to, they can
become members. Does that sound so ridiculous?
And if in the future the two separate states have
good relations, and as EU members want to unite,
well and good

In reality, his comments reflect the views of more people
than politicians would care to admit”, Crisis Group telephone
interview, James Ker-Lindsay, November 2007. A Western
ambassador said the Matsakis row triggered a reaction, not a
debate: “I can’t imagine the Greek Cypriot public opinion moving
towards a solution if advertised as [partition]. A lot of people may
feel deep down in their hearts that partition is a reality, and we
have to live with it….at the monthly bicommunal meeting hosted
by the Slovaks, all they are talking about is partition…[but] even
if people feel it deep down, their theology and mythology militates
against them ever accepting it”, Crisis Group interview, Nicosia,
October 2007.

That's what it boils down to. The GCs know this all too well, that a formal partition and a 2 states solution will not be accepted by the TCs and Turkey unless the "trnc" also becomes an EU member in order to help Turkey get into the club. Jack Straw can say what ever he wants regarding partition, he is just blowing a lot of hot air up the NeoPartitionist skirts just to make them feel good and become a panderer at the same time, so he is just a waste of every ones time. It appears that Jack Straw has less brains than the "straw-man" in the movie, "Wizard of Oz", because, in the end, "trnc" and Turkey will want to be in the EU. The EU is the only game in town for them. The "trnc" and Turkey will have to forget about EVER getting into the EU if formal partition takes place, therefore, its the reason why Turkey will not allow a formal partition to take place, unless it would come in the form of another Annan Plan, because, what little land they will get in Cyprus, they will forever lose the chance to become part of the EU membership. Not only the GCs will keep them out for certain, but it will also give enough ammunition for majority of the EU members to see Turkey in a bad light for tearing up part of the EU's territory, assuming of course, that Turkey can get away with such a move.!

But those in the north who are into illegal trades like money laundering, human and drugs trafficking and so on will be happy to divide Cyprus formally and not become an EU member for obvious reasons. VP has indicated that he does not want the "trnc" to join the EU, as if the "trnc" had any chance to begin with. One wonders what is VP up to in the north to not want to be in the EU.??

i really wonder if a agreed partition has ever really been discussed in both communites.IN the g/c community it may be a political taboo but may be supported by a larger then expected part of the population especially the younger generation that has no ties to the north.

In the T/C community it very well maybe widely excepted however i believe that they dont realize that if there is a agreed partition they will most likely lose 35-50% of the land they currently control and will not be eligble for the EU and lose there ROC citizenship and the benefits that come with that, and most likely become even more dependent on turkey.
