I think Spain joined the EU well before UK so, knowing there was a dispute between UK and Spain over Gibraltar, why was UK admitted to the EU without "giving back" Gibraltar to Spain?
Serious question requesting serious answers, please.

I think many in the UK would agree with you on that one ZoC!

I'm surprised there isn't a 'Get Cyprus out of the EU' pressure group here in Cyprus. They don't seem to like most of the stuff associated with being IN the EU!

I have been warning you all about the dirty role Britain is playing in Cyprus. Now you have a grandstand view of the process going into high gear. Britain does NOT want a united Cyprus. It never did. Study the history of British colonial rule and you will see the divisive policy since 1878.

We ignore their role and that is a huge risk for all Cypriots.

The next spanner in the works would be a statement that the British will vacate one or both bases and express their "sincere desire' to see the territory equitably divided. It is a pimp's game we know well, but our leaders do not want to do anything about it.

Mr H:

"I recently visited the BRITISH memorial in GIRNE "

Is there one of those in Ireland? Or was there no propaganda value in building one there so they did not?

The RoC Government should simplify things a great deal by telling the UK that should the Partition be formalized, then the entire Zurich Agreement which grant it 2 bases suddenly becomes null and void! Then, the CNG could give Britain a 24 hour deadline for commencing its complete withdrawal, otherwise the CNG should forcefully invade and take control of all bases and installations.

It is a stupid question. First of all UK joined EU before Spain. And Gibraltar is less than 0.01% of Spain. Do you really compare that with 1/3rd of Cyprus? Even the British bases in Cyprus are many times bigger than Gibraltar.

Your question is very much flawed, VW.

Although the UK is holding onto piece of Spain, Cyprus was not holding any part of another nation, therefore the RoC had no dispute with another nation, so the Cyprus entry into the EU has no direct or indirect connection as to why UK was admitted to the EU while holding onto the "Rock".!

Your question may be appropriate concerning Turkey wanting to become an EU member under the same condition as the UK did. The only difference is, Turkey is occupying part of the RoC who happens to have a veto vote to keep Turkey out of the EU if she does not return the occupied land back to the RoC..

By the Greek EOKA terrorists

It is nice to see that the name EOKA is still being mentioned CONSTANTLY by its previous enemies.

I love to hear stories from my father and my uncle about their experiences in the liberation of this island. Did you know that my uncle once covered himself up with dead corpses so that the Brits patrolling near him would not spot him? A man of BALLS is who he is, period. How interesting though that these two people who were EOKA fighters now have nothing but love for the British people. Forgive and forget, something Turks haven't a clue about.

End this occupation at once barbarians!
