Oh I see! You've gone back to the theory...

"Cypriots wake up one morning and unanimously agree that they've got territory to spare and who better to receive such a gift than our eternal pals the Turks!" 8)

Yeah ok... makes sense! :?

If your question is, why would its members exert pressure to RoC prior to the acceptance, the answer is because of economic and geopolitical interests in a final solution of the Cyprus problem (that's a very big discussion). International laws are details. So much pressure won't be necessary anyway, they'll just push a little the RoC to make a decision that she will tend to make on her own.

Look, the UNSC is EVERYTHING when it comes to these matters! Without the blessings of the UNSC (and UNGA), borders are neither created nor changed in this world so forget the EU for now because the EU doesn’t have such authority.

As for Erdogan, he will probably be dead in the time for which we are speaking about.

Oh right, well in that case Turkey may not be around by then either.

That's not what I wrote. RoC may accept the partition officially (unofficially, many GC politicians have already accepted it), because it decides it prefers to have more territory under its real and less under its virtual control than the other way round, and because it decides it prefers to have more money than less money.

Well, we don't know if the UNSC will exist in the same form by that time, but assuming it will be so, do you think it would oppose a solution in which all parties already agree?

Perhaps not in the same form as today, it may split in two or more countries, but how would this change the situation which we are speaking about?

:? But where is the logic to a threat like…

“Cede territory officially or you will cede it unofficially!”

It’s daft!

What solution? Is ceding territory for no apparent reason such a solution?

But can't you see how much of what you anticipate relies on multiple NESTED fantastic hypotheticals to bear any weight?

There is no such threat. RoC has already lost territory unofficially and at some point it may want to get some of it back (this won't be much anyway). What do you find so strange in this?

I already said some of the possible reasons: to have more territory and more money. I could also add, more stability.

But can't you see how much of what you anticipate relies on multiple NESTED fantastic hypotheticals to bear any weight?

No. If we want to imagine how the future will be, we have to make some hypotheses, there is no other way. And what I described seem to me to be the the most realistic.

Afro, you logic is very strange and I am not sure what you are playing at.

You say in the future Cyprus won't be the same, Turkey won't be the same, Erdogan will be dead, the UNSC will be in a different for, and so we should give up now, because maybe just maybe sometime in the future we will anyway????

What sort of Hypothesis is this??? You are just doing Jack Straws job for him, you are planting partition seeds, defeatist seeds and we should do it before its too late??

Man, are you for real??

Says who? If it was fine to ethnically cleanse 185,000 indigenous Cypriots with a 10,000 year old inheritance on Cyprus why would they be shy of screwing Turks at the slightest opportunity?

If you still think you will be able repatriated 2 3 4 generations of settlers 100 years later you are definitely dumber then we think you are.

That's where we are heading on the 18th if the issue is still locked then its a clear indication that this problem will never be solved even if left up to the "Cypriots" as the UN cannot play this game indefinitely.

I hear you say "once again" so what did it cost the RoC the first time?

Exactly what it would "cost them" the second!

Write this on your forehead...

UN RESOLUTION 353 (1974)

...because it'll come back to haunt you again and again until not a single Turk is to be found on the island.

Aside from the acceptance by international official bodies you have yet to pay the real price of your stupid actions which is close at hand, once things start rolling you will not be able to stop it then you can tell me I was right. The Taiwanese formula is upon you, all ports are to be opened.

I'm just describing what I see as the most possible future situation, and how this is related to Jack Straw's statements.

I used to be very strongly for re-unification and against partition. But the developments of the last years, and especially the attitude of GC and TC populations, didn't leave me much hopes. So, I'm trying to adjust to the situation as it is now.

If you want my opinion on what we as Cypriots (GCs and TCs and all the rest) should do now, it's first of all to sit down and decide: do we prefer a BBF or a partition. We should be clear about that as a society. And then act accordingly. Whatever the decision is, I have no other option but accepting it - after all, I'm not a permanent resident of Cyprus and my opinion has less weight than that of others. But if it is partition, then I think it's better to be an agreed one and a fast one, so at least some people get something back.

Afro I reside in the TRNC and you are 100% right due to the attitude of both sides after the borders were opened revealed that partition is our only real option as neither side really wants BBF.

Partition is not an option, annexation is not an option, independence is not an option, and eventually you too will come to realize that REPATRIATION is your ONLY option.
