The BBF you are hearing about today (since 1977 actually) is just a goodwill gesture by the RoC which can be revoked at any time and I predict that it will be sometime in 2011.

And this is where you acknowledge that without the consent of the RoC, Turkey cannot do anything, and the RoC is not as stupid as some of you seem to think!

They legally defeat every other assumed backdoor.

Well, I don't know if it's the only way, but it's the easiest one, so I guess they 'll do it like that.

And it's not a matter of what Turkey can do, or what is the IQ of RoC, but of what will be the only alternative for everybody at that time.

The only alternative? :?

So why on earth would the RoC shoot herself in the foot?

Because Turkey says so?

I don’t know how some of you can come up with such silly ideas/assumptions yet consider yourselves intelligent! :?

I guess it will be a combination of pressure from outside (Europeans, Americans etc) and something in exchange (small territorial adjustments, compensations, withdrawing of turkish army and end of guarantee treaties etc).

RoC will have nothing to lose (as by that time any talk of the North coming under its control will sound as a bad joke), but some small things to gain. As the motivations for re-unification will be almost non-existent, it won't be so difficult for the RoC to sell such a solution to its population.

With over 1 million Turks in the north and no chance of sending them back due to the lapse of time, offset by the opportunity of regaining 15% of the north, add to this international pressure and the deal sounds viable.

Why doesn't Eroglu propose this at the table?

When the current state of affairs break down the GC will be blamed once again as it was them that refused time frames and Annan type referees, this will strengthen the TC case, all we need is the for international community to once again see the GC intransigence. That's where we are heading on the 18th if the issue is still locked then its a clear indication that this problem will never be solved even if left up to the "Cypriots" as the UN cannot play this game indefinitely.
