Jack Straw utters the TRUTH

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

You give the poor ragtag EOKA dudes too much credit!

Britain actually tricked Cyprus by retaining a piece in the form of the SBAs even though she had to abandon Cyprus 100% in accordance with new (1960) international decolonization laws.

Oh how I wish I was in Makarios’ place in 1959… :(

That’s something I’ll never forgive him for!

If there is a Partition, the British bases will be history, whether they are sovereign or not. The GCs will just walk onto the bases and occupy it Ghandi style. If Turkey can take northern part of Cyprus by war with the British approval, then they shouldn't be shocked if the Cypriot people take the bases away from them peacefully.! The British lost all of India for God sake. How can they keep the bases if the RoC doesn't let them.?

Who will care if the SBAs are gone? Who will be upset? Do they do anything for the GC population? They don't do anything for Brits living here do they? They keep themselves mainly to themselves from what I can see. Organising their fetes and socials and such.

I suppose some soldiers will mourn the loss of the chance to spend a nice little spell in Cyprus but who apart from those will care? I have a military pal in the UK who described their time in Cyprus as 'the only time I ever got paid to learn to water ski and scuba dive'. I'm sure he wouldn't rather have been in Northern Ireland!

UK will presumably save a load of money. Lots of the areas are not closed off to the general public anyway. Their swimming pools, cinemas, beaches etc. are all open to everyone to use.

As long as they don't demolish Lambros Fish Restaurant - I don't care.

You Twat. Those are British islands like Cyprus was prior to 1960 when they were terrorised by the Greek EOKA terrorists into submission to sign to away as a republic you fool. But, Great Britain Never loses and Never forgets the women, men and children it had lost in its campaign against your blood thirsty Greek Junta nationalists. On the table, they tricked you into signing the 1960 partnership and now it's divide and Rule Dumbo. Who is going to remove the TRNC or the British bases? You? Fool, stop being so stupid and think if you can for one second. The island of cyprus was Part Ottoman and Part British, where the British made a serious mistake after 1923 in trusting the Greeks on the island, like how our people trusted the Greek in Crete.

Here's an Open secret, The Cyprus issue is over, THREE states, partitioned; British bases, the GC-ROC and the TRNC.

I recently visited the BRITISH memorial in GIRNE and saw a very famous British personality leave a token of respect to those British servicemen and Their families KILLED by the EOKA......he was furious when he walked away, AND it WAS NOT Jack Straw.

I am keeping low until things change and then will be back to laugh my head off on this pathetic forum everyone laughs about.

No buddy, you are the idiot, British isles my arse, go ask Argentina and span if they agree, prick.

Cyprus is a GREEK isle never mind you cockroaches invading our space. Yes run along tosser and lets see who has the last laugh. Of course he was furious, he lost control of the Island and they will never fogive us for that, hence the constnt shafting we have been recieving from her majesty since.

So my little Turkish piece of crap, on yer bike.

Prove it. This is what I ask you do. Take a Greek flag and wrap around your body and then go to the border and try crossing it without a passport. If you manage to do this I will be convonced this is Greek island.

Jack Straw seems to have overlooked the fact that partition (or recognition) won't get Turkey into the EU because the ROC will permanently block Turkish entry if the UK chooses that path. So quite how partition helps Turkish entry into the EU is a bloody mystery to me.

Maybe Straw hasn't understood that Cyprus is actually an EU member now, the Annan Plan is in the dustbin and David Hannay is nowhere to be seen. This isn't 2004 anymore which is where Straw's knowledge of the Cyprus issue seems to be stuck.
