While the number of citizens of the KKTC is around 250,000, its population is about 650,000.

Given the fact that more than half of the 250,000 Cypriot citizens had come from Turkey after the Turkish military operation of 1974, the distinction between Turkish Cypriots and Turks from Turkey is becoming more and more pronounced in the northern part of the island, leading to serious concerns among those closely monitoring developments in Cyprus.

What is the potential to make this work after a solution is agreed?
As all know with Turkey giving a bit more on property and territory we are not that far from a solution. However, what is the potential to make it work afterwards?
I have the feeling that the GC tax payer is nowhere close to being interested in seeing his taxes go towards paying for a economically backwards part of the island, where he will not be allowed to settle and own property.
With this in mind, should we not settle for an extremely loose federation, where each community minds its own business?
The only federal would be one single voice internationally, in the EU, etc, and a single passport/citizenship.
From there on entrepreneurs on both sides will slowly integrate economies and social life again - and down the line future generations can make more wise choices for the island.
