I seriously doubt his words are going to make the slightest difference on Turkey's tourism, as some naive people here seem to believe so.

Turkey is for the poor and uneducated Brits who want to say they've gone abroad. The intellectuals and discerning travellers shun it. Will only travel specifically for some Ancient/Religious site. At present, there is one Professor, acquaintance, who is making a conscientious objection by withdrawing from a Conference due to be held there, to which he was invited.

A second one, I know, is also thinking of withdrawing. Let's hope it snowballs.

In order to withdraw, you have first to accept. Do you mean they are declining to accept?

They are both long-standing, invited members of the regular core-group, and obliged to attend these Conferences which are held annually, globally. The next, due to be held in Turkey, is the one they are withdrawing, in advance, from attendance/attending.
