A GREAT DAY FOR THE CYPRIOT CONSUMER !

Postby miltiades » Thu Nov 04, 2010 10:07 am

Lidl opening today heralds a new era for the Cypriot consumer who for years now has been exploited by the supermarket barons and so often a victim of the cartel operations. Lidl is more than big enough to take on not only the Cypriot existing supermarkets but the entire Cypriot food industry, with last years turnover amounting to a staggering 44 billion Euros Lidl is well poised to strike a blow at the so far unchallenged cartel operations.
Every one on this forum know how much I love Cyprus also everyone knows how much I detest exploitation of the people by a handful of greedy manipulators , I use manipulators since these business moguls are very skillful in manipulating higher authorities. They tried to stop Lidl , they failed the Cypriot consumer has won , competition has been established starting from today.

Absolute chaos in the Larnaca one, they ran out of trolleys the crowds in Paralimni apparently have parked everywhere  The Lidl cyprus website shows promise of good prices, I have been told Milti that the Bread Cartel in Cyprus have,nt been worked on by the Lidl magic   I have,nt been able to venture in myself as busy, but when it dies down I,ll pop in and see.

Agree with what you say, in fact if you don,t wish to shop in Lidls you may soon feel the benefit in your local supermarkets as they try to compete with the prices.

Its all good for us consumers and not before time.

A quick visit at my local Lidl has confirmed that prices in Cyprus , based on those emailed to me from Cyprus , are lower than those of the UK !!!
A 5ltr of Cooking oil in Cyprus Euros 4.99 , here a 2 ltr £2.69 , considerably cheaper in Cyprus , taking into account of course that the Cyprus prices are offers lasting but a few days.
A kg of carrots Cy 0.44 , UK £0.59 , 100 GR Instant coffee CY 0.99 uk £1.34 !!!
It looks as though Lidl will force the existing supermarkets to reduce vastly their prices.
I wont have to bring nappies this time for my grandchildren since the Cyprus price of E 6.99 is about the same as here , this will teach the local ....mavragorites who charge 18 euros !!!!!

Visited Lidl today in Larnaca, had to wait an hour to check out. yes I did see some good prices which were advertised as opening prices.

I think time will tell how well they do, I wish them all the luck in the world to deliver value at good prices, teaching others a lesson at their own game!!!

I must admit being Cypriot I did not like the fact that you are charged for the plastic bags.

Other than that, I will be visiting again once the chaos dies down.

By the way, later in the day I took my mum to Carefour for her monthly shopping, you could tell that it was quiet in there, some of the staff were asking customers if had visited Lidl, I wasn't asked.

Lidl Cyprus will be just as succesful as the other 9000 stores Europewide !!
They have done the Cypriot consumer a world of good , the existing supermarkets who tried so desperately to stop Lidl's entry into Cyprus will now have to rethink their price policies.
My daughter bought a 50 packet of nappies for 6.99 euros , Carefour ....
guess what 18 Es !!!! The existing supermarkets have had it all to themselves for years now , it is now the turn of the Cypriot consumer to dictate prices by his feet !!!

Limassol sea front traffic was crawing along way back as far as Molos this morning & when you did get there, there were at least 100 people waiting to get in, brilliant idea cuasing chaos in one fair swoop! My Orphanides was empty..
